92-year old woman is Tihar undertrial

Mary Devi, the oldest undertrail in Tihar Jail, in 92. Frail and weak. her vision is failing and she needs assistance while walking. Languishing in jail since March 2004, Maya weeps profusely in wait of the court's judgement. SHe is one of the 21 old women undertrals and convits at Tihar Jail. Moved by their condition, the Tihar Jail authorieites submitted a list of all women prisoners who are over 65 years of age to the Naitonal Commission for women recently asserting the need for speedy trial. For the convict among these womem, the jail authorites have urged the NCW to take up the matter with the judiciary so that their cases for bail can be dealt with at the earliest. At 92, Maya Devi is a shattered woman. Fighting back tears, she told the Asian Age that she has problems in breathing and is unaable to walk. SHe said due to her weakness she keeps falling down an hurting herself. The old lady said she is unable to eat solid food and is surviving on bread crumbs.
