Is chemotherapy really good for our health?

I had my 6 sessions of chemotherapy last 2005. I had to undergo chemo since my lump on my left breast was 6 cm in diameter. My first session was on June 30 and the last session was on Nov. 15. The procedure was done every 3rd week of the month. On the first session,I started to lose my hair. My 3rd & 4th sessions were postponed due to my low blood. My oncologist informed me if my blood is still low the next month, I have to undergo blood transfusion. I was so scared because I know the side effects of blood transfusion. So what I did I ate a lot sweet potato's leaves. The next blood test was great! I regain my hemoglobin level. The worst session was my 2nd to the last. The night of Oct 15, I felt I was going to die. I had so many bad side effects. I had severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, lost my appetite, lost so much weight & diarrhea. I was so weak. I could not get up from my bed. I even saw my deceased mom's face smiling at me. So I called her to tell her I would like to go with her since I couldn't bear the side effects anymore. But she didn't oblige to my request. The next day I did my best to get up & go to mass in a wheel chair at 9:30am. The mass was almost halfway still I stayed & listened to the priest's sermon. I was able to finish the whole mass. As I leave the church, I felt strong. God heard my fervent prayer. IT'S A MIRACLE! Because of the HOLY HOST I received, I regained my strentgh. My last session was fine. No too much of the side effects. I learned from my oncologist that chemo attacks good & bad cells that is why my immune system had gone down--couldn't control the side effects. The chemo has NO ASSURANCE of cure & non-recurrence of the tumor. That is true because last month I have to undergo chemo but I opted not to. I had my WORST EXPERIENCE with chemo. Still under medication & recuperating from this big C.

My mother just had finished her chemo too today. It was a very sad thing to see your mother go thru it the 2nd time. But we have no choice its the best option to follow since there's really no cure for it as of yet. There are many alternatives available but the assurance is not as good as chemotherapy.

Hello mcaf.... my mother's onco is a PGH Doc Dr. Cornelio, he also is a very compassionate doctor the only thing that he doesn't preach is that he doesn't believe that this alternative medicines does help. My Uncle in the states have sent as a pack of TF already and is on our way. but right now we chosed to have the chemotherapy as our choice since this is the most that was available with us at the moment. I would talk to mama if she wants to consult with your onco for a second opinion. Can I ask how much does she ask for consultation. I guess we could visit her when she comes back from the provinces this coming Holy Week where she is scheduled to have her 2nd session for chemotherapy. I wish I could communicate with you personally. I have not seen doctor that is encouraging their patients to take this alternative medicines especially with regards to cancer.

rsa101, chemo is not a good assurance. let me share to you the website of transfer factor, which can help your mom regain her strength. it is www.livingnow.net/websites/cancer.htm. i myself will testify that TF PRODUCTS w/c i am taking is very effective. supposedly i have undergone my chemo (2nd time around) last january since my cancer has spread to my brain & liver but i declined. instead i asked my onco if i would just take TF. she said ok. then my next check up was better! liver ultrasound & blood test results were normal. i want to share this with your mom. give your mom hope. don't forget to pray to God fervently. only God can heal cancer.

I have little knowledge about chemotherapy, but I think it helps cancer patients in curing their sickness. I know how you feel right now, I have seen my aunt go into these ordeal when I was still young. Just keep the faith. It's good that there are good and religious members out here in mylot that will pray for your wellness. I'll include you in my prayers also. Hope mylot helps you in some way.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your experience with me. We all know cancer is bad, but I think we either don't know or forget what a person goes through with it. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I believe in the power of prayer. We have visiting teachers and missionaries over at our home weekly from our church. Even though I only know you as mcaf1970, my family and the people from our church will pray for your health and recovery. God will know who you are. Try to keep a positive attitude. I know it can be trying sometimes. God Bless...
