I know they don't think so but I sure do. We had a hard time last year and same thing this year. It's her senior year and we want it to be special but also decent and comfortable. I don't believe the kids should show everything they can. Or the grownups for that matter. Call me old fashion and thats ok. What do you think?

I don't think so. I think you're just old fashioned and what not. Because I'm sure, when you were a teen, you're parents thought prom dresses were too sexy for you guys. The cycle just continues. There are worse clothes that the teens can be wearing, and prom dresses aren't one of them. I have seen worse, regular every day clothing that would make prom dresses look like a nun's dress. Prom dresses aren't bad, I suggest you look at the clothing before you form the opinion of a dress.

now highflyingxangel...have you looked at the prom dresses!Especially like the one described above. And yes I do agree with you about some of the clothes some of the teenagers today wear, and I believe you're right about the cycle continues. But I think the old fashion thing just comes with maturity. Thanks, appreciate the response

of course you wouldn't think so,Young girls usually dont .I have looked at plenty of clothing and there is no reason why ateen girl needs to be dressing like that and she especially doesn't need to be going to a prom -as a neighbor once said-looking like they are high priced call girls.Being old fashioned has nothing to do with it. I have alway believed that there are ways a girl can show off what she has without being trashy about it

YES! These are teenages and should dress more appropriately. Parents and the schools should put their feet down. Am sure there is some dress code for the school already. The prom is on school grounds so the dresses and suits should reflect that. I am with you on this!!!

YOu should accept that the world is changing, you should let her to feel herself as a real lady. I can say it easily, because I do not have a daughter... There are not any problems with it, till she knows how to behave, and till she sees the difference bettween good and bad.

I'm not sure what her knowing right from wrong and her behavior has to do with the dress issue...... but I do know for a fact that you do not have to dress showing everything or even something, to be a real lady. thanks for responding

I don't agree with you. It's ridiculous how these girls dress. There are alot of perverts out there that are really getting turned on by these teens that think it's fun to dress like streetwalkers.

I agree that there are some pretty revealing prom dresses available, but then, so it goes with trendy clothes in general. My daughter's not to that age yet, only 9th grade, but we've always agreed on a standard of dress for her that is not too revealing, no low cut shirts, super short skirts, or bare tummies. That's her school's code as well, and she doesn't have a problem with it.

I don't think it's just prom dresses that are too sexy for teenagers. most of the clothes for young girls and teens are really too sexy and inapropriate. there are even thongs for kids 4 and up these days. it's awful.

Some of the prom dresses have gotten a little too sexy for my taste and look more trashy than classy. I've seen much sexier dresses than the one in the photograph though, I don't find those too bad. I remember back when my sisters went to prom how poofy the sleeves were on those dresses, I used to make fun of her for that..haha. I really should've kept my mouth though considering the dresses from my prom are starting to become outdated as well!

i would say, most are. but here in the philippines, having a dress done is quite cheap so we can have them tailor made for us. then we,(mothers, i mean) can have a say on the dress design and of course on the budget.

This winter my grandaughter was in Homecoming Court at her high school. I treated her to a day of shopping to buy her a dress. I was amazed at the difference in formals today as opposed to when I was in high school. You honestly can't find a dress these days unless it dips low in the front, is backless, strapless, etc. I was honestly worried about the dresses we were picking out, I know how I felt and I surely knew how her dad would feel about them. Fortunately, she showed good judgement and picked out a dress that was as unrevealing as possible. I attended the ceremonies that night and again I was amazed at some of the dresses that even 14 year old girls were wearing. I was very proud of my grandaughter for showing her good taste, but things sure have changed since I was in school! My parents would have never let me wear something like that at such a young age and I really think clothing manufacturers are a big part of the problem. They make clothing for all ages now to try to make girls look too sexy and they are definitely too revealing.

My daughter is 16 and graduating from high school this June. Their banquet is going to be a dinner cruise so they have to have quite formal attire. She was very specific about what she wanted (and didn't want!) in a gown. She didn't want strapless (as she's tiny on top), didn't want to show too much skin and wanted to look "appropriate" and "elegant"... she's pretty modest for her age!! However, she was pretty put off when she walked into the dress shop (with her godmother, who is gifting her the dress) and the lady asked, "So do you know what you want? Oh wait, let me guess -- the tightest, shortest, sexiest dress we have?" My daughter stood tall and said, "No thank you. I would like something classy." The woman totally changed her tune and was smiling at her. (Personally, I think I would have walked out if I received a question like that -- but that's another story LOL) She said it was hard, though, to find a dress that she felt comfortable about... so I'd say we both agree with you, devideddi, that a good number of the dresses are too sexy or grown up for teenagers. She ended up chosing a halter style dress which does show some of her back but nicely covers what needs to be covered in front :)

As a parent you really have to prepare yourself for the onslaught of immoral values being presented your children. It is outrageous but you have to pay close attention and try to turn your child from the dangerous things that are out there to entrap them.

I totally agree with you. You should have seen the dress she wore to her homecoming dance. It was a black satin spaghetti strap that had a v that literally came half way down her belly and you shuold have seen how short it was and she's only 14! I had a fit! No,they don't need to show everything they have.I have said this to one of the responders-there are ways a girl can show off what she has without being trashy about it

I think that the dresses now are way too revealing. I think that a lot of clothing in general is too revealing for girls. It is very scary, since I have a 4 yr old daughter who is probably going to want to dress that way some day. I will put my foot down, and i only hope that her dad will agree with me (we are divorced).

I think most of the clothing that girls have to choose from today is way to provocative but the prom dresses are out of this world in cost and they are way to adult for these children.

I think that there must be a material shortage somewhere because clothes in gemeral are covering less and less. What will it be like in 10 years from now. I try to keep my kids covered up even though they are young because it will be an issue someday and I want a head start. It is hard to find shorts that dont leave the but hanging out even for my little 3 year old. Prom dresses are showing a lot more then they used to and every year it is getting worse. I might be old fashioned but what is wrong with covering it up a bit?
