I think it depends a lot on what you're downloading. Torrents are good for popular files because there are plenty of seeds. The downside with torrents is that they die quickly. After they've been out for awhile, if people stop seeding then they die. P2P programs like emule have higher file availability, but lower speeds. It just depends on if you're going for something rare or popular. Torrents force everyone to share, so generally you can get better speeds on them for a lot of bigger files. That makes them more dangerous too because sharing is worse than downloading legal wise.

Hang on.. p2p which stands for point to point pretty much covers all the different methods of file sharing, torrents, limewire, emule etc are all point to point software. The main difference is the use of different sharing protocols and the method of accessig the content. With torrents you find your file from an online tracker and download a link to that file which opens in your torrent client.. the file is then downloaded in parts from all the seeds or peers... as other people have said however torrents can easily die if not enough people continue to "seed" the file once it has been downloaded, also torrents can take a while to reach a good speed. Other file sharing software like limewire and emule have built in search engines which search others computers to see if they have the file you requested.. they generally get better speeds from the outset but also generally have a far greater number of viruses and other bad things you do not want on your computer.. another disadvantage of the likes of limewire is that someone has the ability to browse specific ip addresses.. say someone found a song they liked that you are sharing they can then browse the host of that song and view everything that the host is sharing, this is potentially dangerous because if an anto p2p company was to browse a host and find large volumes of copyrighted data being shared they can record your ip address and report you to your isp.. this breaches most isp's terms of service and also the law.. it is possible you could be brought up in court although thats is currently uncommon.. with torrents you can also view the ip addresses of those you are getting a file from but there is no option to browse host or the like.. if an organization got your ip address for that they would only have you for that one file..torrents also tend to be safer then limewire and others virus wise because all files have an onsite description and if someone finds a virus they post comments warning others not to download the file, there is no such feature in other methods of p2p. Anyway that is just my 2cents!

Torrents are much better as you never get viruses and crap like you get with most P2P networks and spyware etc

i think torrent is much better then p2p because in torrent you can find much variety such as more movies , games, songs and much more....... p2p is also fine but there we get only videos only and some demo softwares only
