What's your opinion about gay marriage? Do you think that gay people should have more rights?

I am a lesbian and I would love for my partner to have all the benefits that are afforded a spouse. I don't care if those benefits come with a marriage license or not. We don't need a piece of paper to tell us we are partner, we need the paper so that others will allow us to live with the right and privileges afforded to heterosexual couples.

I have friends that are gay, and felt that the UK allowing civil partnerships was a great idea. If a gay person was to die without a will, their partner would not of had a claim, even if for example the house was not in their name, but they had contributed to the purchase of it. As many families struggle to accept their gay son/daughter then the partner could end up with nothing. The civil partnership protects rights like these. Marriage however is a different thing completely, it has it's basis in religious teachings and is the joining together of a man and a woman. As marriage has alot of religious signifigance then this should be left alone. Gay couples by becoming a civil partnership should have the same rights as a married couple, but the religious teachings cannot be changed and should not be re-written.

I believe that weather you are gay or straight you should be entitled to the same things . I don't feel that it should really matter who makes you happy in life and don't feel that anyone else should be able to make that decision or choice for you . As a straight person , I don't understand how difficult it would be for someone but can imagine with all the ignorance in the world what hassles you would be faced with and don't feel that any of us should have the right to judge something we know nothing about .
