I am just curious if we have all had that one teacher who inspired us or made us who we are today. I had a special teacher. Her name was Mrs. Wade...she was my English teacher in grades 7-12. I am 36 so this was a while back...she was the only teacher who actually prepared the students for college. She actually taught us literature and different authors. We had different activities like dress up book reports and things such as this to make learning more fun. I came from a very small school and it seemed like all the teachers really could care less...except for her. I also remember a science teacher I had in 4th grade. His name was Mr Briscoe. We did experiements and all in his class and it was SO fun. I don't remember a lot from then, but I do remember him...we looked in microscopes and learned about how an egg develops, etc. Tell me about a teacher who inspired you.

Mr. John Brace. He was my teacher in my junior and senior years of high school. He taught an elective two year course for electricians. I didn't become an electrician but the man gave me more respect than any other teacher. Thusly, I was more productive for him. He taught me discipline and understanding that was beyond anything you could have learned under most teachers methods. I have had two more since him in college but his influence had already given a punk a better outlook on my future.

It is so true. Teachers have one of the most thankless jobs. The LEAST they should receive is better compensation for molding the future of mankind.

Great memory. Thank you so much for sharing. Isn't it great to know that there are still teachers out there who really care about their kids. Teachers are so underpaid and so disrespected these days...it's nice to know there are still some that have been instrumental in a student's growth.

That is an amazing thing that a teacher would take such an active interest in a student. My favorite teacher was my 5th grade science teacher who was so interesting that we were riveted to our seats. He melped us make chocolate covered ants, brought a cow's stomach and eye for us to dissect, and we got to use microscopes for the first time. I thought he was very cute which, I guess, helped with the attention thing!

Mine was a high school English teacher too. I had her for lit and creative writing in 11th and 12th grade. I remember that she had spikey blonde hair, always wore big clunky geometric shaped earrings and long flowy dresses, and came up with off-the-wall writing exercises to get our creative juices flowing every day. I went to a high school where not many students had an interest in college. It wasn't the best place academically. She was the one who kept talking to me about going on to college and pushed me in that direction. She went way out of her way to help me apply for scholarships, too. Writing this makes me sorry I lost touch with her. Thanks for bringing up a happy memory!

wonderful woman. I just think that teachers aren't given the credit they deserve...at least some of them. There are so many teachers that just don't care and the ones who truely do care are pushed to the side so many times. :) Thanks for sharing

Mine was an English teacher too. He taught me when i was 13. I was a very quiet kid who always thought that i was not really noticable so i didnt interact much and except for very few close friends i never used to mix with that many people. He slowly brought me out of my shell without me even realizing it. He made me feel that my opinions mattered. To all the other teachers I was just another student, but he made me feel like i could be something. At the end of the year he nominated me for a prefect. I didnt become one that year but i did the next year. Too bad he had already left school and didnt get to see me. His name was Mr. Eugene Chand. After that i became very interactive and was involved in many things in school. Apart from being a prefect i was also a sub-editor in our school magazine and involved in all sorts of exhbitions and fairs. If he ever sees this id like to thank him. Thank you Mr. Chand, you made me believe in myself again.

That is great. Teachers don't realize that they are responsible for so much more than just learning how to spell or read...they help mold kids. Thank you for sharing.

ball pitt - my daughter playing and jumping in her ball pit bouncer.
i had an amazing teacher in 9th grade. she was my math teacher. i used to be a real trouble maker in school and one day i started acting up in her class. she kicked me out, now not just for that day but the entire semester. i was so mad at the time and hated her. but not being able to get away with anything from her really got me thinking. the following i had her again, but this time i was good. this was the first and only class where i listened and didn't act up cause i knew i couldn't get away with it. anyway after this she was very nice to me when i was nice to her and she really made things positive for me. even when the following year she changed schools she would come and tutor me cuase i wasn't doing good in grade 12 math because i was so used to the way she taught and didn't like the other teachers. then when i moved out on my own at 17, i was still in high school and on welfare. she would get me to babysit her kids cause she knew i needed the money and then send me home with containers of food so i always had something to eat. she was amazing and i'll never forget her.

The teacher who inspired me the most was Mrs. Ankrom- my advanced US history and Government teacher. She was like a walking encyclopedia- I swear!! She knew so much I just wanted to be that smart. To this day, she keeps in touch with students and sends out Christmas cards, etc. Before she started aging, she would travel to college graduations and weddings regularly. I'm a teacher now and I hope I inspire students like she did!!

I think for me it would have to have been Mrs. Nahla. Although she is no longer here, I really admired her and loved her as a friend and as a mother. She was even born the same day and year my mother was born. May God have mercy on her soul. I remember one time my friend and I were passing notes in her class, and she saw us doing it and took the note from my friend. And at the end of the class, she read the note on her own and began laughing. In the note, we were talking about our parents, and how it wasn't our fault that were born lol. And I will always remember that day because she found the humor in it, and hugged both me and my friend. I really miss her a lot, and I hope that others get to have the same experience with such a great teacher.

Mine was my Art teacher in grades 9-12. She had it so togehter and inspired us to be creative in everything we did, not just our art. She was single and in her late 30's and had a fiance. She travled alot to Europe and could keep you enthralled about the beauty of many countries and places, like the Louve. She also raised Collie dogs and showed them. She would bring them in after school and we learned alot about showing. She knew alot about everything. She eventually got married and after a few years retired to spend time traveling and showing her dogs. We all missed going back to visit her very much.

WOW! That is very lucky to have such a worldly and educated teacher. A lot of people are just educated in ONE thing...sounds like she knew a lot about a lot. :)

Mr Liew, my maths teacher. He taught me the systematic way of solving mathematical problems when I was in upper secondary. He was a serious teacher and everytime I made mistakes or did not follow his systematic approaches, he would write his comments in bold red ink all over the pages of my book. Eventually, his systematic approach really stick to my mind and make me changed for the better. And, from that time onwards, I really love maths. In my pre-university studies, a scottish maths teacher taught us the subject. Luckily, he also taught us the same systematic approaches and it makes me get good grades in my external examinations.

That is wonderful for a teacher to teach you something so well that it sticks with you forever. A lot of stuff we learn in school is just memorized and then forgotten.

I'm not sure if he made me who I am today but I do have one teacher that really stands out. Like you it was my english teacher, Mr. Radelet. He was a great guy and he always had something nice to say. He's the one who really encouraged me to write. To take what was going on in my life and write it out. We had a journal project that we had to write in at the beginning of each period. He assured me of it's confidentiality and encouraged me to just let it all out on paper and I think it really helped me to get through a lot of stuff.

It was my literature teacher. He was just a simple man with a knack for education. With him teaching you never get bored, he gives out fantastic assignments that will test your mind and imagination and most of all he communicates with us not as a teacher but as a friend. He doesn't sound off his own horn like what other teachers do. He's just there but he has a commanding presence. We fear him more than our principal. The funny part is that when the school is having an academic crisis it is he who they turn to for answers because he knows how we kids work. His hard work paid off and now he's a dean of student affairs. He was offered a principals position in a US school but he turned it down.

Speaking of teacher? As far as I know a teacher can be found not only in school but also outside of it.Someone who teaches you the things you do not know. One of my best teacher is my beloved mother. My mother teaches me the things in preparation for my school years, she became my inspiration from the years that passed me by and until know.:)

I had a teacher called Mr. Straukas. This was in high school, he taught me for history. the other kids often picked on me and my friends and a lot of the teachers ignored it because they didn't like us witheer. But Mr. Straukas was awesome. He was a teacher who kept control of his class by getting them to like him. He also had facinating stories. He was a great teacher and friend.

It was Miss. Saffana. She was my maths teacher in grade eighth till tenth. She is the beauty of nature herself. She taught us verry hardly and sincerely but now she is no more. I feel so lullaby while I start solving any work included calculation. She was the one who help us to made our basics in the field of mathematics. Im so thankful to her that she helps me this much I can calculate everything. Apart from this there is another teacher named Miss. Qamar. She was my history and geography teacher in the same classes she indeed help me to know about our history and geography alot. Thankyou for this lovely discussion!

i think there were a couple of them who inspired me while i was in school and in college. the teacher of moral science has a great role in building the base for my character. the other one used to teach me biology and really showed faith in me. he even talked about my good scores to my juniors and even his family. i think he motivated me a lot!

For me, I'd say it is my social studies teacher, Mrs. Pineda. She's one tough teacher, she's feared by almost all students.....but she's really good. Her subject is kinda boring but she really gets the students attention by her mere presence. Her way of teaching differs from other teacher, she straightforward and frank. But then she allows her student to share their views on things and even let them debate.

Two teachers come to mind. The first was Mr. Lumley my 6th grade teacher. The previous two years I'd had teachers that had either not inspired or not challenged me. Mr. Lumley did both. He saw the potential in each student and pushed you to do your best. I'd never been pushed and had always just got by with mostly B's. Mr. Lumley pushed me to get straight A's and I did. Something I'd never even considered trying for! The second teacher was a professor in college, Mr. Guatney. When I first entered his class room I despised the man! He was rude and obnoxious and I wanted out of his class. But I am bulled headed and decided no one was going to make me quit a class and decided to show him and succeed. Mr. Guatney ended up being my all time favorite professor, like Mr. Lumley, always pushing me to do better although Mr. Lumley did it a kinder, gentler way. Clearly I like people who challenge me!
