I am a bit of an insomniac. Which of course allows me more time to my lot. But sometimes it gets so bad that I become incoherent and unable to function due to being so tired, but then I still can't get to sleep! I am also interested in any other natural or homeopathic remedies that you would recommend for common maladies. Like did you know that grapefruit seed extract can be used to treat irritable bowel syndrome and minor infections like of the eyes of the mouth?

some thoughts for you. Clear your mind, my experience is that thinking is one of the larger problems with not sleeping. Also consider melatonin and/or a b vitamin complex supplement. And last, make sure you don't spend any time under fluorescent light before you go to bed. If you haven't read it Kevin Trudeau wrote a book called Natural Cures, and then he wrote a sequel called More Natural Cures. He has a website called naturalcures.com. If you consume any caffeine during the day, I'd say you might also take a vitamin C tablet about an hour before bed.

i am an insomniac too sharone. i do not take medicines to cure my disease or resort to any natural remedies. I just follow the advises given to me by my mother and some friends. here, let me share it with you:
1. Drink Milk before bedtime.
2. Eat foods rich in Carbohydrates
3. Drink water, because water relaxes the body.
4. Take a lukewarm shower to soothe and relax your body.
5. Read a book or watch tv if you still cannot sleep.
6. Exercise Daily is also important in fighting insomnia.
7. Never stay in your room when you are not sleepy so that your mind will be set that your room is only for sleeping.
8. Eat banana or raisins, they help you destress and drowse.
i hope the above information can be of help. take care.

I found a few good teas at the supermarket. One was "tension tamer", the other was "calming formula", and chamomile is always good. The tension tamer seemed to have a little of an aphrodisiac effect though, so that may not help you sleep too well if you don't have the resource to um... But it did help me not to feel so much anxiety. I would recommend the other 2 for night time. Go easy on the sugar because that will keep you awake.
