Wide eyed, innocent, childhood wonder.

What happened to the innocent childhood wonder that we all had as kids? When rain wasn't an obstacle to our busy days, but a passing toy that God dropped for us to play in and with and then go inside and dry off and get all snuggly warm and giggle. When the computer and the people in it didn't seem more real to us than the people that we would watch our in public with wide wonder filled eyes.
Is there some kind of quota on wonderment and enchantment with the world and all of God's creation. "Once those wonderfilled eyes have goggled at this much...that's it, no more innocent wonder for you."
I just read and responded to a friends post about standing in the vestibule of a Walmart and being moved by the nostalgia of a little pixie faced girl who said to her mommy. "Why don't we just run through the rain?" While they were waiting for a cloudburts to let up on some random day. I was moved by the way that he painted the scene and I could just about see the little girl in my mind. It even made me nostalgic. That's what made me think about what happens to the innocent wondering ability. It is not like we know so much more than that little girl does. But as a child the mind keeps things simple and to the point. Children are blunt in their innocence. They are also beautiful because they share with us for one minute the wonders of the world each time they marvel at the mundane.
