Where do you buy your books? New at a major book retail store like Barnes and Noble or Borders?
What about the books that you collect that are out-of-print? Where do you buy those? Online at one of the major used bookstore places like bookfinder.com or abebooks.com or alibris.com?

I'm really lucky in that I don't HAVE to buy the books. My sister and my cousin buy them, read them, then send them on to me. I then send the ones I've read to the one that hasn't read them yet. I don't collect any that are out of print. All three of us read books by the same authors, so this works out very well for me. They can't wait to get a new book by one of our favorite authors and I can, so I come out way ahead in this situation. We all have books that we want to keep, so we just let each other know which ones we want back. The ones that each of us have already read and aren't being collected are usually sent on to another one of my sisters or given to one of our friends who reads a lot.

It sounds like a wonderful system. I wish I had a network of book buddies too. You are very fortunate.

I agree with that. I'm very lucky, especially because I do read a lot.

Thanks for giving me best response. It's a shame more people didn't respond.

Well, for the books that I need to have or read immediately, I will buy it from a book store. But for the books that are out-of-print, I'll try at the second hand book market and sometimes on the internet such as amazon. Once in a while my friends give me books that they are finished reading it and that they think I might like to read it, too.

I'm partly handicapped...can't stand and can only walk a few steps with a cane before I need to sit down, so don't go shopping. I do a lot of online shopping. I used to use Amazon.com a lot. Then I discovered half.com and use it quite a lot.

I can't believe that I ever paid full price for books at Barnes & Noble, Borders and small private book stores. Now, I buy them at thrifts (church thrifts are the best), house sales (especially estate sales) and auctions. I live in an old area outside Philadelphia that has a gazillion colleges and prep schools, so there are plenty of books here. Also, I've noticed that a lot of yuppies pay full price for book store books (Hardback, I don't buy paperbacks) and then donate them to thrifts stores. Imagine that, they pay all that money and then don't keep the books! (Some are in such good condition, I doubt they even read them.) Well, I buy them for a dollar. Some I sell but the ones I read, I keep.
