Tired of hearing about Dead Beat Dads

I have not missed a child support payment in my life. In fact, I am ahead in my arrears. I just like nearly 70% of all other fathers who pay child support, am tired of hearing about Dead Beat Dads in the media. They portay Fathers like we are bums. Let's talk about the other side of this. When a woman has been ordered to pay child support only slightly above 50% of them pay it. That sounds like a good news story to me.

I applaud you for paying the support like you should but not all men do. I have been battling my ex for 13 years. It is not only men who do not pay the support noncustodial moms do thier share of not paying also.

I commend you for being a responsible father. I wish all fathers were like you. I am sure you are right and there are just as many deadbeat moms as dads. My son's father is a deadbeat. Hasn't seen my son for years, my son is now 9. He did take me to court in 2002 to attempt to get custody of my son and child support from me. He had never laid eyes on my son...was just out for money and told me so. This costed me $5000 in attorney fees to fight; he hasn't paid a dime in support but somehow came up with $$ to hire and attorney to take me to court. The court decided on a visitation arrangement; he showed up twice. On the third planned visit, he called and cancelled and never called again. I recently found out he was put in jail 4 months ago for raping his 13 year old step daughter. I feel fortunate and thank God that he did not pursue the relationship with my son. However, I am bitter that he "showed up" at all. I don't want my son to think that he is defective in some way. I just thank God and know we are better off without this man in our lives. Fortunately, I met a wonderful man 4 years ago, am happily married and my son has a father figure now.
