Referrals....Where do you find people and how do you do it?

K i know this is going to sound silly but I am still learning how things work here on myLot. I would like to refer people but am not sure how to go about doing this. I know that some people place their profile links on sites but which sites? Maybe it was explained when I signed up but somehow i've missed it. Thank you for your help :) Have a Great Day.
