Overuse of power

My son had recently gotten in trouble at school for such a mundane issue that i didnt want him to serve, we appealed it instead. Now I know many parents say their kids never do things wrong, but such is not the case here. I have no issue stating a wrong when one has been done. Anyway, part of the school's appeal process is that all punishments are put on hold pending the outcome of the appeals process. Pretty standard and reasonable practice. My issue, however, is this. While the administration was reviewing his case, the teacher assigned to 'discipline' called my son out of class and explained to him that she had spoken to me on the phone and I agreed that he should stay after school on that day and serve his detention. My son, being a pretty smart guy, opted to come home because he he didn't hear it from me directly that he should serve. And smart he was!! There was no phone conversation whatsoever between any member of the school and myself within the week, nevermind the day, of this occurance. This coersion tactic was absolutely not reasonable and extremely maddening to me as a parent. I did consult the police and was advised that since the coersive action was not made for the benefit of committing a crime,it was not a crime in itself. This certainly is not my opinion, especially from an educator.
