Is there a possibility of a long survival after cancer has been treated?

there are some situations that after cancer patients have been chemotheraphied,had died after 3-5 years,so cancer is still in the body even they are been treated.Is there a possibility that patient will survive in this disease and die old w/out the trace of cancer?thanks for all who will response.
