I'm a doctor from the Philippines. Although I have no plans of enrolling in nursing just to be able to go abroad, I do understand the sentiments of those who did. It's pretty hard to earn in the Philippines, whether as a nurse or even as a doctor. Being a nurse in the US (or other countries) gives a higher income than being a doctor in the Philippines. But I guess the bottom line is trying to search for a better future. We always want to give our families a better chance in life, and earning in dollars abroad seems to be the better way out. If the earning capacity abroad and at home is about the same, I would think that most people would prefer to just stay home.
