I just made this...the kids went crazy for it!
1 cake mix
1 box Jello
Whipped topping (Cool whip)
--Make and bake cake in a brownie pan as usual...cool. Poke holes in the entire cake with a straw. Mix together 1 1/2 cup boiling water with box of jello. Pour over cake and refrigerate. Top with whipped topping. YUM!

One problem with the "free" coolwhip......it is fat free, but extreamly high in calories.

This cake was one that I made quite often. I would use wild strawberry flavored jello mix. The Cool Whip was a great topping and easy too. I would add sliced strawberries in between the layers of a 2 layer cake. Top with the Cool Whip and decorate with more strawberries.

We used to call that a Poke Cake, when I was younger. Actually, I still do. You can also mix in jello or sweetened koolaid with the whipped topping, to match the flavor of the cake. Happy eating.

That sounds interesting. It sounds like something that my kids would like. The kids might be able to make this. They would probably have fun doing it. It sounds real easy.
One question, though. Does the cake get mushy from pouring the jello over it?

I used to love making poke cakes when I was a child. I'd use strawberry jello and strawberry cool whip on top. Yum.

I have made this many times. I use Lime jello and I add lemon pudding to the topping. Also I use the lemon cake mix. I have also tried it with the orange. It was delicious as well. This is very cool and refreshing.

This is one of my favorite cakes! I could probably eat one by myslef over the course of a day...my favorite is white cake with a red flavor (strawberry or rasberry).
An idea I've had that I haven't tried yet: combinations using something other than a white/yellow cake - like chocolate cake with cherry jello for a "black forest" jello cake.

Hi! Thanks for the idea of using a chocolate cake with cherry jello! That's awesome! The last time I made a black forest cake with cherries, I almost broke a tooth on a cherry pit. Yikes! Needless to say, I've shyed away from real cherries, but I'd love to try this! Thanks again! :-)

This is one of my favorite cakes in the entire world! I was telling my fiance about it not too long ago, and he said he had never had it. I told him I would have to make some for him at some point. :)
Actually, I'm going to a picnic on Saturday, and this might be perfect for that! :)
