This factor is also dependent on economic factors - capabality to have a dwelling unit with several rooms, atleast 2 rooms. In India, majority of people have a single bed room house where all the family members sleep together. In middle class and uppermiddle class, one can put all the children in one room and parents sleep in a separate room. But the right age for the child to sleep separate would be 2 years and above.

I would like to say that my kids slept in their own beds from day one, but I can't. We did have our kids out of our beds by the time they were 3. The problem I have now is that my husband works out of town during the week and they all pile in my bed when he is gone. I can't say I hate it though. It keeps my bed warm at night.
The really big problem: my dog thinks he is one of the kids and lays up on the pillows under the covers just like the kids.
I think I am going to start sleeping in their rooms to see if they follow me. Maybe they will get in the habit of sleeping there!!
