Favorite part of your homebirth

I loved having a homebirth. Some of the main reasons were being able to have the baby in my own bed, then taking a bath with her, then going back to my bed with nice clean sheets, not having to pack up and drive home from the hospitol and eating whatever whenever I felt like it. I also loved that my baby and I were never sperated! What was your favorite part?

CONGRATULATIONS on having a home birth. I think this option should be made available to more women. Did you have a midwife or doula to assist you? I would love to be able to have a home birth, but its just not very widely accepted where I live. There aren't any midwives or doulas here and none of the doctors want to do it.

I had a midwife. Where do you live?

I live in Hawaii. The island that I am on is pretty rural. There is one midwife that I know of on the island and two hospitals, one has six OB doctors and the other has two. None of them are willing to do homebirths, which is kind of a shame. I'm expecting my third child in about a month and I would love to be able to have a home birth.

Check out www.mana.org (Midwives Alliance of North America) to see if there are any CPM (certified professional midwife) or DEM (direct-entry mw, sometimes also called lay midwife) midwives in your area. I'm not sure what the laws are for midwives in Hawaii. If CPMs/DEMs aren't recognized it may be harder to find one, but I would bet they are there somewhere:)

We are TTC#3 and planning a homebirth so I enjoy reading what you and others enjoyed about your homebirths. This will be our first homebirth, I have had 2 hospital births. I deeply regret not homebirthing my other babies.

I've had 3 hospital births & feel the same way. Although the middle one was a great experience in a hospital, the first & third were over-managed & so out of my control. I'm expecting #4 now, and short of a major complication showing up, I plan to home birth this time.
