Randy Update - Our Trip

United States

So we were unsure of when exactly Randy was going to be getting out of the hospital and Travis (his son) was really needing to see him, to know for himself that he was okay. It was killing him not being able to see him at all for this long or really hear from him well. So Kris & Travis were over last Saturday (the 3rd) for the day and thats when we heard it was possible he was going to be in for two more weeks. So Kris started talking about heading down that way...and I said I'd like to go too if it works out. So were just in kind of wait and see at this point. Sunday Kris asks me how quickly I could go if she decides to just go? I said well it just depends because I hadn't had a chance to talk to Erica about it and that would be the only thing that would hold me back. Turns out she calls Monday and said she believes she is leaving today...can I be ready? Well we were still half asleep in bed, after that I couldn't go back to sleep, trying to work it out in my head how I could go. She calls a half hour or so later and says she's leaving, can I go? I said, I hadn't had a chance to talk to Erica about it, so no I probably couldn't now. Ends up I called Erica right after that and she said it was fine, go. So I ran around the house like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get everything ready to go. We left Post Falls at about 1p.m. Monday and stayed just outside of Eugene, OR that night. We got up early Tuesday morning and arrived in Concord, CA at about 2:30p.m. or so that day. Randy was still in the hospital at this point, but was getting ready to get out, just had to get all the doctor paperwork okayed back and fourth between that hospital and the docotor here. It sounded like at first Randy was going to drive home with us Thursday. Ends up that Randy & Travis flew out Thursday evening to home (Spokane). Kris and I left Concord, Thursday morning and made it all the way to The Dalles, OR that night. We arrived back home Friday afternoon at about 1p.m. I was able to see the Golden Gate Bridge on Wednesday, but not much else because the laptop was dying and I didn't bring the plug in with us that time & we had to make sure we got Travis back to the hotel in time for him to leave there with Randy at 4p.m. (flight was from Oakland at 7p.m.). Randy is doing good though. He is still pretty sore and tired, but is looking and sounding so much more like himself now. They had to cut his side open and right along the outer edge of his shoulder blade to get everything out. He had a cyst on his lung, which ended up bursting, which is what caused the whole thing. We were able to buy him a laptop (the family) so he'll have something he can do while he is cooped at home for so long. Which we went over and gave him yesterday. He was super surprised and in awww. :)

I am glad to read that your trip was safe and successful! Even more happy to read that your brother is doing well!!! That is awesome that you got him a laptop to help him keep busy! Are you inviting him to mylot? Maybe it will help him keep busy for a while.

I've thought about it, inviting him to mylot, but I don't think he could really get in to it very easily.

Hopefully he will keep himself occupied with the laptop and not want to get up and do more. The pc is addictive so hopefully you won't have to worry about him too much. Glad to hear he is on the mend. : )
