Yes, I have tried Calamari, and I can assure you it didn't stay in my mouth long! lol. I hated the texture of it, and the taste was very bland. I can eat almost any kind of seafood besides Calamari, Sushi and Octopus. Yuck!
Thank you for this discussion and brightest blessings to you.

I've had it in restaurants, deep fried, and I like it. Although it sometimes tastes a bit rubbery.

Ingredient:
1 (2.5 pound) package cleaned calamari (tubes and tentacles), rinsed
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Vegetable oil
DIrections:
1. Cut calamari tubes into 1/4-inch-thick rings. Soak calamari in cold water 30 minutes; drain. Pat dry with paper towels.
2. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients. Dredge calamari in flour mixture.
3. Pour oil to a depth of 6-inches into a Dutch oven. Heat to 400*F (205*C).
4. Fry calamari, in batches, 1 minute, allowing oil to reach 400*F (205*C). before cooking next batch. Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
Makes 4 to 6 servings.

I agree it looks gross and no I don't like the taste of it. I prefer shrimp and lobster or muscles in that regard.
