My daughter turned two in December and I'm just looking for thoughts on when she should start preschool and what kind she should go to. She's very independent but she's never been to daycare or anything, either. I always planned to send my kids to a Montessori preschool, but now I've heard some negative things. What do you all think?

my daughter is 3 and a half. she starts school in september after her 4th b-day. she will be in pre kindergarden and will be going all day every day. it will be a big change for her but i'm sure she'll be able to handle it. i think 4 is the right age to start, anything under taht seems to be a little young to me.

my child starting going to daycare school at 1.5 years old. I send her to school at an early age for socialization purposes. She is know turning 7 years old and still enjoying school. I think there is not such thing as the right age in going to school. If you think that your child is ready to school regardless of age- then put him/her in the school that is suited for the child's age.

Being that I have a certification in montessori and that my son goes to a montessori school, my answer may be biased. I think that Montessori is the best way to go! Now, as a caveat to that, let me also say that I mean a REAL Montessori school. Because Montessori is not a copyrighted name or description, there are a ton of people who use this to describe their school and do NOT follow the Montessori concepts. The real montessori concepts are wonderful, and I think they can aid in any child reaching their fullest potential. My son is also very independent, and has absolutely flourished in the Montessori classroom. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will do my best to answer them for you. Montessori philosophy is sure a large world, and I love to talk about it!

I put my son in preschool the fall after he turned 3 years old. that is when they accept them here. He turned 3 in january and he entered in august. It was just 2 days a week for 4 hours each day. It was at a church and really they just played and learned a bit. He loved it and I really do think it prepared him for this year in PreK going 5 days a week 8 hours a day.

Before enrolling your child to a Montessori preschool- look around at other school first near your neighborhood compare and observe to see if there are teaching the values you wanted. If you don't believe in the philosophy of that Montessori school well - don't send her there because you will see all the negative side of that school.Good luck in your search for a nice school for your daughter..
