The best results are after you miss your period supposedly in the morning. However, there are test that allow you to take them up to 5 days before your missed period, but the percentages are not that great for accuracy.

As soon as you miss your period. My OB GYN said that a home pregnancy test is usually as accurate as the ones in the office. They suggest to take them first before going to an office to get a pregnancy test.
