Do you celebrate Mothering Sunday

In the UK we celebrate Mothering Sunday by making a fuss of our Mum and buying her a card and presents. It is an old tradition which goes back to times when people worked "in service" and did not get many days off from working to see their Mothers.
Do you celebrate Mothering Sunday, and how do you celebrate it?

I buy flowers for my mums grave, step mum and mother in law. I used to get a mothersday card from my mum from Billy but now I don't get anything. Shrek says the boys aren't big enough to have pocket money and buy me a card or present themselves so it's just a waste of money.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, accidently let Shrek see this response and then maybe he will buy some seeds and let the boys help him tend them, and then next year you will have a ready made Mother's Day bouquet!
I was wondering whether it was just the UK that had this celebration and it will be interesting to see how many countries respond, won't it.
I hope Shrek buys the seeds :-)

I have some bulbs in the cupboard, I'll get the boys to plant them on mothers day and get some garden centre plants for my planters at the same time, that way, I have a treat, the garden has a treat, the boys have a treat, Uncle Robert makes a discounted sale and Shrek can be made to feel gilty even tho' Ill probably pinch the money out of his wallet, he's never noticed yet, lol.

Rainbow, you are absolutely incorrigible and I love you! I wish I could be more like you.
It sounds as if you have a lovely celebration whichever celebration you hold :-)
It is funny that the actual reason for this post was to find out if the whole world celebrated Mothering Sunday, and how they celebrated, because I am nosey and I am a writer, but this post is so lovely it could almost be a short story in itself :-)

That is very interesting. Do you think that you celebrate in May because your spring weather starts later than over here, or is there some other reason?

I am always interested in customs and I started this post to see what people did in other countries, and also if there were any regional special ways of celebrating within the UK. As a writer I am always interested in these things.
You are very, very lucky that your children already appreciate that every day with Mum is very special. You are very lucky.

Tut tut! I will save your bacon. It is 18th March this year. Get the chef at the hotel to give you a couple of simple recipes, practice at home and then surprise her! Oh, and a nice flower always goes down well.

I think your Mothering Sunday is just the same or kinda the same with what we are celebrating here in our country. Here in the Philippines, we have this what we call Mother's Day. It usually falls on the 2nd Sunday of month of May. It's a special day for them that's why we also give them flowers or any presents we could think of. It's one way of showing them and telling them how we love them and letting them feel their importance and worth. :)

Yes, that's right and I think it is a good thing that we take some time out to remember just how important and precious Mothers are, even if it is only this once a year for some people.
