I love snack mixes. I'm sure many of us are familiar with Chex Mix. When I was in college a friends Mom used to make "Texas Trash" (they were from Texas). My friend from Vermont makes "Nut's and Bolts", it had shredded wheat in it, which I thought was really good. Do you make a varitey of snack mix? Where are you from? What do you call your mix? And please, share the recipe! :-)

I love snack and trail mixes. We used to make nuts and bolts and Chex mix. I just made one the other night for the first time. It had popcorn, puffed corn cereal, raisins, and dried apricots. You then melt together a little margarine and honey and pour on top. Mix it up and bake on a cookie sheet for 15-20 minutes. It was yummy and healthy.

My cousin and I used to make our own... we would just grab whatever we had on hand... this was when we were little kids... we would go in her mom's kitchen and crab whatever we could and throw it together - usually cereal (Kracklin Oat Bran, Kix, Cocopuffs), butterscotch chips, m&ms, reices peices, pretzal sticks, nuts...whatever we could find. Her mom always had all the good stuff at her house so we were always able to a lot of stuff to pack into our mix. We never called it anything... or gave it much thought except that it had to be salty and sweet. The recipe was never the same. We would go for hikes in the woods and take our mix with us. Of course this was a small town in Ohio and kids had more of a chance of falling in a well than getting upducted.

Here's another favorite mix I almost forgot about CHEX MIX PUPPY CHOW 9 cup Chex 1 cup chocolate chips 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup butter 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar Put cereal in large bowl. Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour over Chex cereal, put into a large plastic bag with powdered sugar and shake well to coat. Spread mixture evenly on wax paper and allow to cool.
