Hi my son has started teething. What do people suggest is best to help a baby through this period. If possible I would prefer to use natural solutions rather than medicines.

I have read that clove oil diluted/mixed with olive oil will do wonders. Try rubbing the mixture on your child's gums and see for yourself how good it's going to be. If it is proven to be effective on your child, share the experience with everyone else you find needing the information.

One of the best homeopathic meds I ever found was Humphry's teething tables and I used to get them at walgreens or rite aid. We tried the cold teething rings and frozen wash rags and yes even wiskey on his gums. The best thing I ever found was my grandmothers remedy Buy an undyed leather belt and cut it up into 3x3 squares and let baby chew away. For diaper rash on a boy the best is baked flour Place one cup of flour in a heavy fry pan that can go in the oven bake at 350 until flour is brown store in a clean dry container and place on baby at each changing. My boys got rashes so bad their little hinnys would bleed and I would put this on and the next diaper change they would look better and by the next morning it was gone completely. Not great for a girl because of yeast infections. Use corn starch for girls right out of the box

Well we were old fashioned (!) and used teething rings and rusks. Even then the poor little mites had a hell of a painful time of it. I had a wisdom tooth push through and it was really painfull so what babies go through with a whole mouthful I cringe at the thought.

You can use the frozen teething rings, frozen wet washcloths, teething biscuits, chunks of bagels, some people even use things like (clean!) metal tools like wrenches. Pretty much anything that is hard, and usually cold. You can also massage the area with your finger, pushing on the tooth a little. If baby's really having problems, especially while sleeping, give them a little infant tylenol. It softens the pain so they can get a little sleep. That sleep works wonders for you and them. Also, a little dab of orajel on the tooth will give them some instant relief. It's nothing drastic, but it does help.

I think you just have to take it as it comes, there are some babies where nothing works, and some, like mine, who get through it pretty easily. The worst thing I remember is the nappy rashes, which my 1st and third got. The best thing I found was to put vaseline (petrolum jelly) when there was no rash, to build up a barrier, and when there was a rash, I found some whipped egg white worked great. I think its the vitamins in it. Keep it covered in the fridge for a few days. We have Bonjela here, which you rub on the gums, a health shop may have an equivalant and for the pain when its too much, we have Calpol, which is a medicine to take down fever and pain. Best of luck!

I know that my kids did not like those teething rings. I would take a clean washcloth, wet it, and freeze it. They loved to chew on that, and it numbed their gums!
