I had an experience with a pit. A lady walking her dog in front of my house. My neighbor's pitbull saw them, broke his leash and surrounded them. I thought she was going to be attacked trying to save her dog.I found some flimsy plastic thing and hit it. Just like in the movies,i ran backwards as it came at me and fell down.As soon as i was down it turned back to them.I jumped into my van, drove around up to her and they got in . The pit tried also but failed.Never will my child be around a pitbull. My son witness the whole thing!

Please dont blame the breed, any dog would have done that because that is what dogs do. It dosnt matter what the breed, any dog can become aggressive even just looking at kids. My brother has a Pit Bull and has had him for 6 yrs , yes he sometimes gets aggressive towards other dogs and to people he dosnt know(if they approach the house or car). He is beautiful with my kids and mates kids and my youngest is 11 yo. We realise that the breed is dangerous and we never leave the kids alone with him but iam the same with any large dog no matter what the breed is. I realise that you were scared and the poor lady with the dog., but the owner of the dog is 110% responsible for that attack ,that dog like all dogs should be in a secure back yard and expecially large breeds should also have voice command training. No dog should be out the front of a house thus eliminating that poor lady and you fear.

Cody dog attack April 7th 2007 - Day before Easter my son in Hospital with 60 stitches and 20 staples after dad attack in his own backyard.
Pitbulls are abreed that was MAN MADE. For Fighting and killing things. They were used in Dog fights because of their aggressive nature and ability to kill without being able to be stopped. If your brothers dogs do ever TURN. Be aware their will be nothing you ca do to stop them that is the difference. Some dogs are aggressive by nature as they were bred to be Fighting dgs not family pets. They served a certain purpose and thats what they should be used as. Its like having a domesticated great white shark. I am sure they could be kept as a pet raised from a young age to accept their enviroment, But SHOULD they? NO. Look up they Pitbull breed and do some research. Its not just pits either. Akitas are natural fighting dogs, and Rottwielers are too. But any dog in a bad situation and animal that has been abused or neglected has the probability of biting someone. I would NEVER allow my children to play with Pitbulls not because I think all of them would attack but because if they do They have the ability to KILL.

i understand that that was a scary situation. and totally understand why you wouldnt want your child to be around a pitbull. but dont judge all pits by the bad actions of one. especially when its the owners fault. a pitbull is a VERY strong dog. it NEEDs training. they should be kept in a yard with secure fencing and not just tied to a tree etc. many pits are strong enough to snap larger size chainlinks. and a regular leather/nylon type leash WONT hold them. all that is the owners responsibility and if they had been responsible owners this whole event would not have happened. i grew up with pits, my father breed them for show. every single one of them were sweethearts and wanted nothing more than to cover you with kisses and try to sit in your lap, but of course being their size and strength...you got knocked over often! but that was never a sign of aggression. if you are seriously worried about that pit getting off his leash wandering the street, then call the Humane Society. they will come to the neighbors house, inform them of the leashing laws and what they need to fix to be in compliance (fencing etc.)

Codys dog attack - Cody attacked by dogs on April 7th 2007!
Make sure you are aware of your county laws, My son was attacked through our fence in his backyard and the county told us to put up a better fence..... You have to be Carful what you post is true. Most counties still do not have laws porotecting you if your Fence is considered not sufficent. Also oin my case the dogs that almost killed my son were not even putto sleep. So check your LOCAL Laws. And start writing congressmen about this poor situation. Where are children can be atacked and not pay consequences. Learn the law. You may not get a second chance. See my discussion for more on codys dog attack!
