Dogs

I think that you should look to rewarding your dog more than punishing. They learn in a similar way to humans, but we can't communicate with a dog (but then you can't communicate with a baby that well either) verbally. You can use your tone. Never use a dogs name when punishing them. Just us a simple "no" and show them the right thing to do (like if they are chewing your chair, then tell them "no" and give them something they are allowed to chew, like a toy). Using their name will only confuse them if you want your dog to come to you when using their name in other circumstances... Carry with you small treats and all times. If they do something you like (they may well poop in the perfect place (like outside!)) then reward them for it. It's the only way you can get them to do as you want. If they bark and you don't want them to, don't shout at them. It only winds them up more, and confirms to them that making noise is a good thing since their owner does it also. Lead by example. Give them a fierce look and use a lower tone, but a firm one and tell them it's unacceptable! I hope this helps mate.
