Is disposable diapers OK?

I heard that it's not good for babies to wear disposable diapers all the time because they might have problems with their hips structure. Because of this, I only let my daughter wears her diapers when she's going to bed at night + when I'm taking her out (which is very rare). Is this true? How often you let your baby wear the disposable diapers? How any per day?

Well i know some old folks who never wear disposable diaper and have hip problem, it have to do with genetics, diet, bone structure, and care for the body and accidents. Doubt it!

well, I do think so but thanks. I'm new in motherhood and many people say this and that which often make me worries about unnecessary things. But precautions is needed anyway.

You'll find that when your a new parent, everyone around you become experts on the subject, and you'll hear alot stuff just like you probably did when you were pregnant. But relax you'll get your own groove and your next one will be alot easier.

Both of my kids wore nothing but disposables and they are fine. I think the whole hip thing is just something some enviromentalist came up with to keep people from buying them. Disposable diapers are no tighter around the hips than cloth diapers.

The funny thing about that- you can actually adjust the tightness of both kinds of diapers, so I don't see how it's possible for either of them to hurt a person's hips. LOL

Back when my kids were little, disposable diapers were just coming into vogue. I felt they were too expensive and opted to use cloth diapers. They may have been a little more work, and the daycare people hated them, but my babies never had diaper rash like the other little bottoms I'd see there had. Parents who use disposables tend to leave the baby wet for longer and longer periods because of the expense involved. My babies were changed at least every hour, because what was one more diaper to wash?

Both of my kids wore disposable diapers 80% of the time and they are okay. I think if the diapers were hurting kids they would have pulled them off the shelves a long time ago. I dont think they would make a diaper that would hurt babies.

I thought babies might pulled them off if they feel uncomfortable, like sometimes when we don't notice it's full already. Thanks.

Some children that have particular hip problems when they are born need to have bigger nappies to help them develop. Most kids are fine in disposables, but of course washable nappies are better as they don't have to be thrown away.

I also do not use diapers all the time for my kids...normally when we go out or at night...using disposable diaper increases the risk of UTI... another advantage of not using disposable is you get to toilet train them early

I have never heard that one before. Both my children wore diapers all day (With the exception in summertime and I let them run free a little bit)until they were potty trained (2 years old) They have never had any problems.

I have used diaper for the little cousin. I have seen my cousin who wore diaper once before making a pee and going to bed with the kid every night. After getting up, his mum and took disposable diapers out and put away in the trash, then made the kid familiar with the pee every morning. It is not good to wear disposable diapers all the time; you may know that the kid’s organ and symptoms need air to grow.

Maybe this is another thing that mom should concern about.

My three children always wore disposable diapers. I have never heard of this before. They are 12, 8 and 7 now and none of them have any problems with their hip structure. Also I was always in disposable diapers as well and there are no problems with my hips either.

I have to agree with the others. I have never heard of disposable diapers harming children in any way other than some are allergic to the perfumes and materials that are used in them. When it comes to your baby it is good to take in all advice, make a list of the things you think actually concern you take the list to the doctor on your next baby appointment, he/she will help you understand if any are of real concern.

This is the first time I've heard this rumor! My son wears nothing but disposable diapers and he's just fine. I think that if there were any real issues with disposable diapers your doctor would have said something to you (or me) and they wouldn't sell them. In fact, I don't know anybody that HASN'T used disposable diapers for their children.

I have NEVER heard this before. My oldest wore disposables until he was potty trained at 14 months and my daughter wears them now, she is 2 months. Neither of them have or have had any problems with their hips. I think this is just a way to scare parents into using cloth diapers. I also have a daycare and all of my kids there wear them and none of them have problems. All wear them exclusively I might add.

Thats a first. I haven't heard that before. My son wore disposable diapers about 80% of the time and he doesn't have problems with his hips. The first 3-6 months i used cloth nappies (and boy that was a lot of work), and then switched to disposable because they were easier to use, especially if we were going to be out of the house.

I've never heard of that, my son wears cloth diapers which are bigger or bulkier than disposables and he hasn't had any problems. There are health problems with disposable diapers-check out www.realdiaperassociation.com

I don't think that's true. All my nephews and nieces have been using diapers when they were babies and they use it till they were two and they grew up fine. Maybe it's just an old myth. Diapers are very easy to manage and friendly with kids. They have a good night sleep because of diapers. But you have to choose your brand though. There are some that really not worth your money.

I used disposable nappies for my son, and never had any worries about them doing him any harm. Modern disposable nappies are designed specifically so that babies have complete freedom of movement, and are unlikey to cause harm.

I always let my baby wear disposable diapers because they are easier to handle and you can just throw them away.

I have never heard of this before. I was taught that disposable diapers were fine as long as they were changed on a regular bases. My son, who is now 25 wore them all through his childhood and never had any noticable problems from it.

I don't think disposable diapers will harm our kids. Disposable diapers have gone through a lot of studies before they were put out in the market. In fact they are even designed to be hypo-allergenic and ergonomic to make our babies feel comfortable. My baby wears it all day and night and I think he loves it more than regular diapers.

I've never heard of that. My children wore disposable and cloth diapers and never had trouble with their hips. I did let them go without diapers a little throughout the day, to get some fresh air!!
