The phrase "jump the shark" is in reference to an old Happy Days episode, when Fonzie jumped over a shark on waterskis. The phrase is a term to refer to a turning point in a TV series-- a bad turning point, when the show just changed and got kind of stupid. So... that said, when did your favorite show "jump the shark"?

I think I've found that with most tv shows when they updated the show I sort of lost interest. I really love the "Little House" series, but when everybody grew up and they came out with "A New Beginning" it just was not the same. Even with Happy Days, once the "boys" were older and they started in with working/dating, and Fonzie moved into the garage apartment, the show just changed too much for me to really want to watch it. They have tried to revive so many good old shows, but they were never the same.

I agree. Many times a show jumps when the kids grow up or even worse, when the kids get older and the couple has a new baby (like on Growing Pains, Family Ties, etc). And I hated when the Happy Days guys started college!

My favorite show a few years ago was Angel, on the then WB network. It jumped the shark when Angel's baby, "Connor" was kidnaped, went to an alternate reality, and came back a bratty teenager.

I remember that episode of Happy Days :) Boy do I feel old. I think with several shows I watched they did the jump the shark when they did the weddings, when the two characters that have been hinting and flirting for years finally get together and then get married. Moonlighting, Lois and Clark, Remmington Steele and The Greatest American Hero come to mind with this. Once they got married the show went down bad and got kind of stupid. Oh one other one was Mork and Mindy. They got married and had the kid and that was lousy. I think that one jumped two tanks of sharks.
