Public and private hopitals in Riyadh,Saudi Arabia are increasingly holding patients practically hostage in orderto get there payment from the families. Jihad Muhammad had a good reputation with this hospital for payment on time but when his wife had twins with complications including a C-section the hospital charged him a SR25,000 bill. Since he could not pay it all at one time he requested to pay it in installments the hospital refused to discharge his wife or twins. They even watched of the mother whenever she went to the nursery to breastfeed the babies to make sure didn't try to leave with them. Muhammad turned to friends, tried to sell his car to no avail. He finally turned to the Health Ministry who had the hospital releas his family on the agreement that he would pay in installments or face the penalty. This has happened to numerous others. Whats up with this?

I would love to know the legalities of any hospital not allowing a healthy patient to leave.
Sometimes people are so intent on sticking to the letter of the law they forget about the INTENT of the law or of the human life involved.Common sense definately did not prevail in this situation!
