How can I uninstall Windows XP and return to my old Windows 98? If you've upgraded to XP from Windows Me or Windows 98, go to the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet and click Uninstall Windows XP. If you want, you can also uninstall XP from the command prompt by performing the following steps: * Start the computer in Safe Mode with Command Prompt support (press F8 during start up). * Navigate to %systemroot%\system32. * Type osuninst.exe and press Enter. * Follow the onscreen instructions. If XP was installed as a dual-boot system along with Win98 or W2K then you can simply format the partition on which it is installed. That is one of the reasons I always recommend to install separate operating systems on separate partitions! Note: Windows XP Professional provides an uninstall tool when upgrading from Windows 98 on a drive formatted as FAT or FAT32. Therefore, when upgrading this type of drive, you will not have the option to upgrade to NTFS, as this would negate the uninstall option. However, you can convert the drive to NTFS after installation if you choose.

THANK YOU!!!!!! I have XP Pro on my computer and HATE it. When my hard drive failed I lost everything and the place that installed the new hard drive refused to install 98 because I had a copy of XP with me. I also had the 98 disc but they kept pressuring me into the XP version. Why would I want to go back to 98? The biggest reason is the configurations. My Belkin wireless adapter NEVER gave me any problems with 98, on XP, it freezes, shuts down the module forcing a restart ... it's a complete mess. Someone said that the Belkin (802.11g) may have conflicts with my computer. Ummm, it's the SAME computer, just a new hard drive. If it worked perfectly with 98 then one would assume that it would work even better with XP. Not the case. Thanks for posting this, I am going to print out everything and try to get 98 back on my system.

I have Broadcom 802.11 a/g and it works fine. like a walk to disneyland. I hope you going back to Windows 98 would fix all the problems you are having.

But Why Would you want to and go uninstall, Windows XP and then get back to Windows 98? If there is any problem with it, you should mention it. Plus since your computer is NTFS set, there is about no way to turn back but to stay or look forward to Vista. Windows 98 does not seem to look good to me, and doesn't seem to support the graphics I like, and play the games in a stable Computing and LABTOP! position! Windows XP, has better multiplayer like steam, Other cool games. more support, less blue screens. Buts its up to you, if you could provide more information of your problem of Windows XP, or just AT LEAST AN OPINION!

No offense, but there is no way I will ever go back to using WIN98 after using XP. Far more stable for a much longer time. I had to reboot my computer at least once a day with 98 to keep it running smooth and reformat at least once a year to keep it running at all. I would say search for a fix or a patch for hardware issues. I have went almost 3 years without formatting XP and still running fine. I hope you can find a resolution to your problem and truly experience XP.
