I would perfer carpet because when its cold it makes it stay warmer in the house. And also I think carpets are easier than floors because with wood floors you have to mop and with carpet you have to vacuum.I know carpets get dirty to and carry dust allergens but you can at least clean it every once in awhile versus the floor cleaning. Now in the bathroom, kitchen and dining room I would have wood floors or linoleum because to much mess hazard there. The place we live in now has a wood floors and I would have like 8 roms to mop.So I think it would be better to have only the kitchen, the 2 bathrooms andn the dining room to mop.I like wood floors and think there prettty and all but I still like the feel of carpet.

We have all hardwood in our house. I really like it. We have a big rug in the baby's room for him to play on. Otherwise the only places that aren't hardwood are our kitchen and bathroom. It is a pain to mop them, but it's easier than shampooing in my opinion. We have two dogs and a cat and they shed a lot. It's easier to get rid of the hair on hardwood. Also, when we were potty training the little dog, it would have been a nightmare to do it on carpets. She was terrible and took over a year. The messes were much easier to clean up off of hardwood. We are going to be moving this summer. I really hope we get another house without carpet. We will just have to see what base housing offers us, though.

If I had to choose only one between the two, I'd say hardwood would be my pick. The main reason I chose hardwood is the obvious fact that it is easier to clean, just a little mopping here and there can do the trick even when cleaning those spilled stuff. Unlike in carpet, you'd still have to shampoo and vacuum every single time you spill something on it or you'll just have to bear with the wetness and the smell. Though, when you want 'class', carpet is still an undisputed flooring. Carpet makes a home look elegant and classy, and can give guests that comfort of the hotel feeling. But if I can afford to have a carpet and not do all the cleaning myself, then why not!?..

Hi Carrie26! If I got to choose, I would have to go with wood floors as they would be easier to keep clean for me. Unfortunately, it's difficult for my vaccuum to get long hair out of the carpet and very time consuming getting it up other ways. With smooth floors it would be much easier to sweep & mop to keep them clean. :)

I like the idea of having carpet house, its so soft to walk. But there are so many aspects that keep me from having this at my home. First I’m allergic. Second it’s really hard to clean and when it gets old we have to replace it by a new one and doing that is very expensive. I guess I will have to wood floor or tile floor in my house.

I prefer wood with area rugs. There's really no way to get the carpets totally clean and dust free. I can't wait til I can afford to get rid of our old carpet and replace it with wood (or some inexpensive variation of) floors.

I would suggest you just get area rugs. I had carpet all through the house, and it still needs to be cleaned. Just because it does not need "mopped" doesn't mean it does not get dirty. I could not wait until it was gone, so I took the carpet out myself in small strips. Carpets hold dust, and they also can emit chemicals into the air. Solid floors (wood, tile, laminate) are easier to keep really clean and they are a lot better for you healthwise.

I prefer wood floors over carpet.. Much as I wanted to use it, I cannot coz I have asthma and so allergic with dust. =(
