Scan for Gender?

Would you advise that a mother's womb to be scanned during the third month to know the gender of the child? Would it have any effect on the baby? As such, i know it would have problems with those who are gender-baised. But legalisation of this issue is not correct, what do you say?

There have not been enough tests on the long-term effects of ultrasounds for me to be comfortable with them just to know the gender. They have noticed that they permanently change cells in lab tests, but aren't sure it does the same in babies. I would do an ultrasound to check and be sure everything is alright towards the end, but no more than one if possible and I'd certainly be upset if it was legislated.

hey there seems to have a debate cropped up. Can we actually know about this from any experts around?

Do you have a link to the research droup or results? I haven't heard that. It seems to me that there are so many babies who had ultrasounds that it would be nearly impossible to do a study with a control group that did not have ultrasounds.

They have done a lot of long term studies from DMS its been around for over 3 decades. None of the long term studies have shown adverse reactions.

Actually the term is not Ultrasound..either its Sonography...Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Its sound waves that create an image on the computer screen. There is no harm to the baby. DMS has been around for many many years and they have proven that in the long term there is no harm to mom or baby. Why would someone legislate Sonography? Granted it should only be performed by someone properly trained...and no Tom Cruise is not properly trained...(he bought his own machine...uhuh)

if it causes no problems to the baby, then i think i would want to know if my child was a boy or a girl. it would give me time to prepare for when it arrives.

The right term for that is an ultrasound not scanned. Ultrasound is necessary not only for determining the gender of the baby but to monitor, the weight, the heartbeat, the movement and the amount of water around the baby. It's very safe and nothing to worry about. If you have concerns about it you can ask your ob-gyne about it.

Ultrasound, to be more accurate, should only be done on the 4th or 5th month. I don't have anything against it. I'd rather have it just to get the right right colors for the clothes and crib.
