Left-hand or Right-hand Driving

India

In the European countries, including Great Britain, everyone - automoiles as well as padestrians - move to their right. But in the Indian sub-continent it is the other way round. It is stranger still as all the laws in India , as they exist today, are a replica of the British Law. Even the Budget is presented as per the timings of the British Parliament. Why did the British not make this rule according to their own, is still a mystery to me. Any logical explanation?
