My question is what do you think the best vacuum is out that would be used for high traffic areas and getting up pet hair ? I ask this cause I am looking to buy a new one.But I don't want to spend 400.00 dollars for one.I want to get a new vaccum and a shop vac. So I have to watch the cost of the vacuum. I would like to give the new Dyson Animal a try but the cost is crazy. I'd like to find one like it but alot cheaper.Any suggestions?

I recently bought this $250 high-speed Dirt Devil that is a designed to be like one of those $500 Dyson vacuums. Girl, this thing was horrible! We have new carpet that is super soft and dense and it literally bounced around no matter which setting it was on and it didn't deep clean. The only good thing about it was it had no filters. It didn't work on flat floors either. Finally I got fed up, went to Walmart and bought a $50 Bissel (power max or something like that) and I LOVE it! It works perfectly on my carpet and I can actually take it on our tile floor without tiny particles of whatever spitting out behind it! I love it and I highly recommend it. The one I'm talking about is bagless and a maroon color. They had two models of the same sort - one was in the $40s and one was in the $50s. I picked the latter.

Thank you, I have a paper made ready to list all suggestions made here ,and I will be sure to look for them.I do most shopping at Wal-Marts and Lowes,so thank you for your suggestions. And I do hate trying to sweep up little mud ball, and sandy dirt only to have it spit back out over your feet!Yuck.Been there, had that too.

Yep, that's the one to have so shell out the $400! Sorry!! We used to use a Nils Fisk in the house and still use it on occasions - good machine that lasts a long time. We had three dogs then (only one now) and my brother mentioned that he had got a Dyson with a special filter to help with his asthma and he swore by it. We bought the Dyson Animal and you wouldn't believe the muck we got out of the fitted carpets in what we thought was a fairly clean house!! Unbelievable!! We have had a problem with motors - we have had three replaced under warranty - but Dyson must have sorted that problem out on later models. ps I don't have shares in Dyson! haha
