Is Suicide a Sin?

If a person commits suicide, do they go to Heaven or Hell? I have had a few people close to me choose death over life, and I wonder if I will see them again in the afterlife? If it is a sin, is it a bad enough sin to go to hell for?

I believe it's a sin. I don't want to burn in hell either!

According to many mainstream religions, it's a sin and they will not go to Heaven or similar place. Some religions see the body not as your property, but as God's creation and any attempt to destroy or damage that body is a grave sin. Personally, I don't believe in any religion, so I understand and sympathize with people who are desperate enough to end their own lives. It can't be an easy decision and it angers me a bit to talk about it.

I have to say that you can't answer that without more facts. Some people have chemical imbalances in their brain and that affects their abilities to have a grip.

I dont' really believe in a hell or heaven but I do believe in the afterlife. I think in the end, it boils down to the person's own choice. It is their life after all but of course it is also selfish because it will affect their friends and families. People often say that it is a very bad sin and such... but what if that person didn't choose to be born in the first place but was brought into this world anyways? It's a hard question to really find a good answer to.
