West Indies are a large group of islands that separate the caribbean sea from Atlantic Ocean. It is comprised of three main island groups: Bahamas (north) Greater Antilles (central) Lesser Antilles (south east) The Bahamas consist of more than 3000 islands and reefs. The Greater Antilles include the island countries of cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The Lesser Antilles are the much smaller islands to the south east and they are divided into two groups, the Leeward Islands and Windward Islands. Today, West Indies known as Carribeans and remain one of the premier tourist destinations on the planet.
