Investing in property in Wisbech,Cambridgeshire ?

We are thinking of buying a property in an area called Elm,Wisbech in Cambridgeshire.
Unfortunately we have had bad reports of this area of being high on the crime list.
Would you or anyone know if this is true and should we look elsewhere.
Could someone advise where the best areas in Cambridgeshire are for buying property for residental use.
