How can you tell if a person lies?

I know it's not easy because some are good liars. In my experience I've found that most are using so many words. True is the saying that "in the multitude of words, hides a lie" Honest ones can only say a simple "yes or no" and people will believe them. Can you detect if someone is lying?

I honestly feel that body language talks more loudly than words. If the person is turning red, is cringing, scratching their head, etc., they may in fact be hiding a truth. On the other hand, there are some pretty 'good' liars. Always try to trick them into telling the truth.

yes, liars are betrayed by their body language. It speaks louder than voice.

You can tell if the person lies if his/her eyes is not steady, changing the topic or avoiding on what you are asking and hands on the pockets.

Combination of eye movement and diverting the subject all the time can sometimes give an indication that the person is lying. Hands on the pockets is new to me. Cheers.

It's in the eyes, if they can't look you straight in the eyes, then they are f*ckin lying!

This is one good way too unless you meet someone who is a professional liar. LOL

definately body language....using "too many" words doesnt always indicate a lie by any means...I for example, tend to babble uncontrolably but it doesnt mean i'm lying...I have a tremendous need to speak in detail partly becuse its a Virgo thing and partly because more oftne than not ppl dont understand/get what I'm saying because I talk in a seemingly jumbled fashion LOL so it confuses ppl...Body language though is a very good indication of liars...ppl generally CANT fake body language simply because there are so many minute physical reactions that most of us arent aware of...learnign to read body language is actually a pretty interesting thing

i don't know where i read this but you can tell if a person is lying if the person looks left. he looks up if he's thinking what to say next. if he looks down he's picking the words to say. i forgot what it means if a person looks right. but yeah, it's all in the body language.

Yes, this is one good way specially if we already know the person well enough and notice the changes in his behaviour.

I can usually tell by there body language or their tone of voice. If you watch carefully and if you're good at reading people (which I've been told I am and I'd have to agree with that) then you can pick up on subtle things that give away the lies. Although there are some people that are just really really good at lying and you can't get any read on them. But for the most part, I can usually pick up on when someone is lying or when someone is trying to hide something.
