Carpet or no carpet?

Personally, I hate carpet. Hard floors show up the dirt a lot more but they also show just how much dirt and crap goes into carpet. I think carpet is disgusting! I also think it's a really stupid idea to have that type of material on the floor. I mean, think about it- if people are trailing their shoes in the house afterthey've been out in the street, shopping centers etc, they're bringing in all sorts of dirt and germs to the house. Like people spitting on the ground, bits of dog poop that have been stood in and trailed every where..I think having a soft material-like covering on the groundthat people walk on with their shoes is stupid! ok end rant! :-p

We have carpets in our house and ive never really minded it. We always take our shoes off at the door and always have done. I think hard floor is more suitable for kitchens and bathrooms but i prefer carpet in the rooms where we spend most time like bedrooms and living room as it is more comfortable.

Oh and another thing i just want to add lol, more people have carpet as it is cheaper and you can easily replace it after a couple of years.

I like carpet, but only in my room. Maybe I just try to hide the dirt so I dont have to clean it all the time:P

Give me hardwood or tile anyday! So much easier to keep clean. We have hardwood thorughout our home and have area rugs where warmth or coziness is needed. Now that I have hardwood and see what all was going into the carpet I see why we all kept sneezing! Most allergist recommend no carpeting if anyone in the home has allergies.

Carpet is just a real pain. We are systematically upgrading most of out house from carpet to hardwood. It is just so much easier to look after especially when you have kids like we do. All those spills are a little easier to take and a lot easier to clean

LOL, I love the rant! I have wall to wall ceramic tile. My husband used to be a tile setter. We don't own this house but we were able to work out a deal with the ownner to get rid of the carpet for a reduction in rent. The bedrooms were carpeted and they reeked of urine. I don't even think it was from pets! I believe the previous tenant, not the owner locked their small children in the rooms. The door knobs had the locks on the outside of the rooms. We originally tried shampooing the carpets, but OMG I thought I was going to vomit from the smell. It was pretty gross when we ripped up the carpet. I have a 2year old daughter and instead of buying an area rug for her, I invested in a couple of foam mats. I can take those right outside and hose them down.

I have come to the conclusion that if you have pets you should not have carpet. Otherwise, I like carpet. We just had our washer hose break and it sent water an inch deep into most of the downstairs. so, I am going to replace some of the carpet with something else. - tile, or laminate, or cork- Something besides carpet!

Like you said, people that walk in with their shoes. You're suppose to take them off when you come inside. Or at least whupe them off if you have to keep them on. If you have hardwood floors they can get scratched so easily by moving furniture, people who do leave their shoes on and have a pebble in the soles, or just by moving a chair. Their is advantages to both and disadvantages.

We have both and both are hard to keep clean with two big dogs shedding all the time. For my bare feet, I like the carpet, and those rooms are always warmer in winter. But bare floors are easier to clean when there are spills, or the dog throwing up.

Well if I lived in a single dwelling I would agree with you, but unfortunately I don.t I live in a complex where people live above and beside me. and I assure you that having an elephant who wears tap shoes and is extremely clumsy is no picnic, but to think of her having hard wood floors makes me ill. so dust germ and all other crap aside at least it softens the sounds. and like almost everyone else I can not move.

In our old house. We had carpet in the living room/dinner room and front hall way. The REST of the house was hard wood floors. Our new house, a rental we will buy in a few months, is all carpet. The ONLY part not carpet is the kitchen and bathrooms. The difference is interesting. I would prefer carpet in the rooms cause its easier to walk on. I used to hate cold feet on a cold floor it was insane. However I agree it gets dirty easier which is a pain. But still I think I like carpet better. I'd be getting hurt a lot easier if not. The biggest pain is learning to tap dance on either the kitchen floor or in the garage. Those are the times I miss floors :)

I like hard wood floors with area rugs- that way when the carpet gets gross you can throw it out. I recently bought a bamboo carpet that is nice- and it doesn't trap and hold dirt like some other materials would.

We have hardwood floors and area rugs. I like that just fine. The rugs are persians so they are low fibers and we get them cleaned. The hardwood floors need a vaccuum like nearly everyday because we have a cat.... I think about that too though.... had we had carpet all this muck would have been crammed down into it. Ugh. That is pretty revolting.

I don't like carpet. It is much easier to clean hardwood floors. I do believe that nothing can clean as good as water. How often can you clean carpet? I don't trust vacuming.

No carpet for me. When/ if I have money, I would one only tiles or wood floor at least. Money is the issue here, regarding my floors. lol I do have all those cleaners, shampoo stuff for the carpet. But still, when you asked carpet or no carpet, I would say no carpet please.

the best for you will be to take the housecleaner and you shoud not buy a carpet. So you can have a clean floor and have not a carpet.

It's much warmer to your feet with carpet. And it is softer to lay on carpet not on cold floor. On the other side carpet IS disgusting because peple spit lot of crap into it and later it is so hard to get it out of carped.
