My class in Religious Education has partially watched a movie based on the Holocaust, Life is Beautiful, starred, co-written, and directed by Roberto Benigni. At first, I never really thought that I would ever like the movie because it seems old and I can't understand the language because it is in Italian, and I don't like reading subtitles. Well, as the movie continue, I began to like it. I even asked my teacher if I can borrow it and bring it home. Well, I did finished the movie, and it makes me wonder... why was the title of the film, Life is Beautiful when the lead star died in the end? What could make a story with war, death of a father, an orphan left behind with a widowed mother be beautiful? I still don't get it. What makes life really beautiful? Well, the movie surely did make me question a lot of things. Though the title is still a mind boggler, I can still say, congratulations! The movie is wonderful! It is so overwhelming I can't stop thinking about it. WOW!

you want to know why? actually "Life is Beautiful" is said by the little boy, u see he's the one narrating the story at the end.. because of his father's great love for him, u can see that his fahter s trying so hard to give him the impression that life is beautiful... a lot of times he turned the war atmosphere into a game to be liked by his boy.. despite of the war, the little boy thought that all is a game to enjoy.. he thought that the tank (in the end wen americans rescued them and they were driving a tank) was his prize, that 's what his father told him if he wins the game.. nice movie, moving and life changing, isnt it?

oh This is one of my favorite movies. I think that the title is suposed to be as "stretched" as the main charactor's actions in the movie. To me the love that he has for his child and the determination that his son would not be mentally effected by this whole ordeal they went through was amazing. I would hope that if i were in that situation or some thing god forbid even close i would have the strength and creativity to be sure my children still thought "life is beautiful" when we were through it. I just loved this movie and your religion class was smart to utilize such a story of history and strength.
