I have a friend at work that told me that he cuts himself and I have heard rumors that he has tried to kill himself. I tried to tell him that he was a great guy and that he shouldn't do that, but I'm horrible at this kind of thing. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to say or do? I would really appreciate anything.

First and foremost, make sure he knows that you want him here. You have to convince him that his life is worth living. If it's bad enough, try and get him some professional help. But most importantly, reach out to him. Talk to him, ask him how he's doing, make sure he knows he can go to you for help or comfort. I've also been in this situation myself and it's a tough thing. As much as he might try and resist, just keep helping.

First of all, your friend really should see a doctor. The best thing you can do is be there for him. Let him know that he has friends that care alot about him. Ask him to talk to you about his problems. Sometimes people just need to know they are loved and wanted or needed. Suggest he gets help and let him know you will be there for him. Best of luck!
