I started submiiting poetry to poetry.com in 2000 and I have never won any money or prizes. Although, I have recieved two Editor's Choice Award certificates. When I looked them up on B.B.B.org, they said that the books that they claim to send out to libraries and bookstores are not actually made until someone orders them. I was on the site recently and I can see that they have redone the whole thing, however I am already disenchanted with them.

I think they are mostly vanity publishing. You know they are around for people to feel good because they got published. I don't think that they are very picky. They just want people to buy the books and other stuff that they sell. You have to realize there are millions of people who submit poems to the contests, so although I don't know anyone who has ever won, I ma sure that there are people who have. If there really aren't winner then they put a lot of effort into posting fake poems by fake people and I don't think they would go through all that trouble. I could be wrong. I think they actaully only print the books for the poets who ordered them and then they are put into a database and if a library or bookstore orders it then they will print it.

Thank you for your responses. I like the fact that they copyright the poems under your name and that you can by things with your work displayed. However, I personally never felt comfortable sending them any money for anything. I simply post my work, print it, put it in my collection and go on.

Wow ... I did not know that this was the case and i will now think again about them. I have only submitted one poem to them that i recieved and Editors Choice Awards Certificate too and i had no idea that the books were only printed when ordered that is rather upsetting for sure!!! I think that i will think twice about submitting anymore to them!

I also suspect their business. They will send editor's choice award to any one who sends them 100 bucks.

I personally have never sent them a dime for anything. If I have to pay for it, that means that I did not earn it.
