I'm terrified of large crowds of people. This manifested itself quite intensely a few months back when my partner and I headed to the movies. A huge group of people were milling around the entrance and I just froze. I couldn't bring myself to walk past them or anything. I stood literally rooted to the spot, shaking quite badly. My partner is a very understanding guy (luckily), he bundled me into the car and we drove up to one of our favourite lookout points where we sat and discussed my reaction. It was pretty freaky, I've never felt comfortable in large crowds before, but I've never felt so scared as I did that night.

Shoo!! that's quite hectic! is it still as intense? how do you deal with it? you very lucky that your partner is understanding. ppl with phobias very rarely get such support, it's more criticism than anything.

I deal with it on a day to day basis as and when it comes. It's not as intense every single time. Some times I feel nervous but I can make it through. When I do, my partner praises me, and tells me how proud he is of me. That helps immensely, but it's also good to know that if I really start to feel like I can't do it, he won't put pressure on me or force me to try. I LOVE him for that soooo much! His support means the world to me. I don't know of many people who suffer from this phobia strangely enough. And even stranger is the fact that my mom has a fear of open spaces LOL.

I have a terrible phobia which controls my life. I HATE rodents. Mostly rats and mice. I know it is a phobia and there is no foundation for the fear but I just can't help the way I feel. I know when there is a mouse or rat nearby, I can "feel" their presence. I can't go into places if I feel there might be rodents there.

I have a phobia for all insects. That includes spiders. I dont know why but everytime I see an insect I go 20 metres from it. Its really scary for me. btw I think most of the answers here will be about insects. We humans have that phobia from the start, when we are born.

guess thats true. most fears are of some sort of creature/animal/insect and then you have the emotional/physical fears.

I am extremely claustrophobic. When I get inside something and it doesn't matter if there is room to move around I start to really go crazy. If you close the door forget it I will start to beat on the door to get out. This is as far back as I can remember. So I don't know if something happened or if it is just a phobia with no reason behind it.

It's amazing how the smallest thing can trigger something in us. have you ever been to the doc for it? do you take something to control the anxiety perhaps? it's actually quite serious, and yet most ppl just take it for granted. i am not claustrophobic exactly but i would say that there are occassions where i cannot handle dark confined spaces.
