gagging on wood smoke

Due to the rising cost of heating fuel, so many more people are resorting to cheaper ways to heat their homes. In my neighborhood, and this year particularly, many homeowners are heating with wood stoves. I dont blame anyone for trying to save money where they can, and i'm all for alternative ways for ultimate conservation of resources, but in my rickety old house, on cold nights, the acrid smell of wood smoke just permiates the inside of my house, and its actually quite physically unpleasant as my eyes burn and my throat becomes scratchy. Does anyone else suffer from the same discomforts?
