What are some ways to get to really know yourself

One way that has worked for me is journaling. Each morning I get up and write 3 pages in my journal. The idea comes from the book, "The Artists Way" by Julia Cameron. She suggests you write whatever in stream of consciousness every morning. Another idea is to just spend time by yourself for quiet reflection. For others it may be by being with friends. Sometimes a good friend can help us to see the joyful aspects of our own lives better than we can ourselves. What about you?

What you are doing is good. most of our problems are caused since all the time we are thinking about past or future. what I do every morning is to spend about 15 minutes trying to live in the present moment. I find that this energizes me for the whole day.

I think journaling is an excellent idea. Spending time by yourself gives you time to find out what you like to do, what interests you, instead of just going along with the crowd. I think that knowing who we are and what we want makes us more interesting people to others, and better friends. A good friend who you feel you can share things with and who isn't afraid to be honest with you is also a blessing.

Great topic! I started my soul searching many yrs ago and it wasnt an overnight process by any means nor was it easy because I had to remember and in some cases, relive the trauma of my past in order to process it and start healing from it...I also did a lot of quiet reflection and still do now actually....I also journal write and I ponder a great deal and I think the biggest most important key to finding you and getting to kwo that person is NOT denying how you truly feel about things...You have to be able to turn off the voices of others who try to or have told you what to thing and feel and REALLY find out for yourself what YOU truly think and feel without the opinions of others getting in the way... Like I said it was a rough road for me..I had to relive and process like I mentioned but also I had to completely DE-program myself in a lot of ways in order to rebuild myself FOR myself ya know...it was hard but so worth it!

I find talking to other people and sharing your views helps you to get to know yourself better. I used to write a journal when I was younger but it wasn't more of an account of my day rather than a recording of my thoughts and feelings.

according to david fincher's Fight Club, you have to fight at least once with someone to know yourself.
