compliment

Over a year ago, I broke out of a long-term relationship. The guy I was with had turned into someone completely degrading and hurtful, and the breakup was stretched over the span of a month or so. In the midst of this, I was made to feel completely unattractive and relatively worthless. As the breakup was coming to an end, I was having an unrelated conversation with a friend. He knew bits and pieces of what was happening, but we weren't speaking of it at the time. The conversation reached a pause, and my friend looked me in the eyes and said "He doesn't know what he has," and kissed me. Though nothing happened between us, that friend is still quite dear to me. I suspect anyone reading this would see that as a bit lame, but that phrase followed by a kiss allowed me to see (for the first time in years) that I had value. I felt poisoned, dying...and he gave me enough antidote to find my feet again. It was truly incredible for me. Strange how deeply some things affect you. I could never, ever forget that moment of my life.

I was told I am easy to talk to. To me that was a compliment. I believe everyone has an opinion and should be heard. I am not good at getting compliments I do not like when people say nice things about me.

The best compliments people can give me are when they say nice things about my children. Then I know that I am doing really well in my job as a mother and that sacrificing my career was worthwhile.
