Just wondering...

I see all these discussions started by people seeking information and answers to questions that can easily be found by doing a simple search on the internet. So I am wondering why do people start such discussions? Am I missing something?

finally somebody who noticed. there are a lot of those 'discussions' lately. however i see that only few or even none would respond to such discussions. i hate it really. but you know how it is, there are those who would do anything for an extra cent. including create obvious posts. something like what is an imperfect tense? then create another one saying what is a perfect tense? i would understand it if for example that person is in mylot and he/she is an educator and she uses my lot to have an online/fun discusions with his/her students. but it seems nobody actually replies to those discussions and i don't know if mylot cleans up those discussions.

I won't respond to them either. Theres a whole line of these kinds of questions in one of the interests right now, it is really annoying and wastes time for those of us trying to find real discussions!

I have to agree with you both. When I fist started here on mylot I did respond to a couple of these type of discussions mostly because I wanted to be helpful and thought perhaps this person was new to the internet. But then I realized it was an on going kind of thing so I stopped. I am guessing that you are right in that it is about the cents generated by posting the questions that they are after not the exchange on opinions and ideas. Thank you both for responding. :)

Some people are determined to get as many discussions "out there" as possible, without having to put any real thought or work into it. I think a lot of these people count on their friends to respond to their discussions, no matter what they're about. I've seen some pretty inane discussions that actually have responses, scarily enough. Another thing is that some people expect to rope people in to respond just to say they're an idiot. I've seen some of those, where there were twenty or so responses just complaining about the post, which all of course makes the original poster money. Bleh. On a side note, apparently I like to type "Bleh". lol

Yes you are right people can search and get answers on net, but this people do to get personalized opinion of other living being. See if a person asks how do you like Japan, then those who have visited if describe then it will be more a personal view and true one as well.

Some people here are obsessed with making new discussions. They propably think that a new discussion will make them earn more than giving a reply to another discussion. Also, some of them makes about 40 discussions per day, so obviously, they ran out of ideas. That's why you'll see many stupid discussions like "Is the Earth really round?" or "What day is today?"

My guess - probably because it gives them something to type to get some money. I tend to ask more "have you experienced blah blah blah" questions when it is something that I can find the "answer" online. I'm not interested in the answer, but other people's experiences. It takes more work to think of and type a "real" discussion than to type something like "why is the sky blue?" and hope for some responses.
