What do you do on an elevator?

What is the strangest/funniest/weirdest thing you have ever seen done on an elevator? What do you do when on an elevator? Are you the quiet type? Do you speak to others on the elevator? Several days ago I got on an elevator and a young man stood the entire time and dug in his ear with his car key. He would pull it out, look at the ear wax and then wipe it on his coat and go in again with the key. It was hard not to laugh. I did a sociology experiment in college in which I stood facing the rear of the elevator instead of facing forward. I was to record people's reactions to my behavior which broke the 'norm.' It was a lot of fun!

Several months back I worked in sales industry. There are days when I just want to scream my head off because of the pressure. Then one day, I decided to do just that. I went to the elevator, let the door close, and scream out my frustrations!lol! Since then, everytime I'm angry, I just go to the elevator to vent. The elevator in our building is not monitored, of course!lol!=p

I usually just enjoy the feeling of riding the elevator. Small thrills, I know. My husband, on the other hand, loves riding on an elevator. He feels it is his duty to convince everyone to jump up and down for some reason. The children are delighted to join in and often the entire family gets strange looks. I pretend not to know them. lol

I am a claustrophobic fool and hate elevators. I do make myself ride them so that I can stay in control of the fear. I would absolutely die if your husband and kids were on one with me. I would be convinced that it would 'fall' and I'd be stuck forever.

I am claustrophobic, but I do ride elevators. I don't like to give in to it. I ride quietly and usually I will smile at fellow riders. I usually don't converse with them.

It happened last week at a hospital elevator. I was the only one waiting and when the door opened, a man and a woman were ON THEIR KNEES side by side, their bums were facing the door. If I didnt know better, I thought it was 2 Muslims praying and genuflecting. I began to snicker and they looked up embarassed. The lady had lost a contact lens on the checkered floor and he had just found it as the doors opened.

I havent done anything inside the elevator myself, even weirdest or funniest thing, never have been. But my friend just got this one.. as we we're inside the elevator, i notice my friend isn't comfy of something but I can't figure out why, inside the elevator we are so silent and suddenly a very aweful smell ran inside the elevator room :) and geez..all peepz look at each others with an hilarious look, guessing who blow that big bomb inside, that'll definitely kills us :) i then looked at my friend too, he then smiled at me and cover his nose. Thats coame into my mind why he seems uncomfy before we entered the elevator...its just because he's ready to explode and detonate that freky smell, the bad thing is why inside the vacuum spaced elevator :) thats hella funny experience with my friend...after we went out, i don't have to ask for it, too obvious, thats my friend who terrorized the elevator. Totally!

LOL that is just gross! LOL How do you find these people? I am the kind of person that can start a conversation with a complete stranger and be comfortable doing it. I enjoy people even on elevators. What was peoples reaction when you did the sociology experiment? I would have laughed at you. Knowing me, I would have laughed till I peed myslef. You would have probably hit me. LOL

The only weird behavior I've ever seen on an elevator was a lady readjusting her panty hose with her skirt halfway up. It was only me on the elevator with her and we laughed about it (hoping the doors didn't fly open.) That must have been a lot of fun doing that sociology experiment, will have to try facing backwards sometime just to see, hehehe.

That "keying" of the ear would've been pretty funny, especialyl as he casually whiped the wax on his coat..haha ew. That would've been a fun experiement to do, people probably do strange things. I don't go on elevators that often because they make me dizzy for some reason, so I guess the strangest thing for me would be sitting down in the elevator (adventurous huh?).

actually that would be another great experiment as it is againest the 'norm' of what people do on the elevator!

I like to face the people on an elevator too, although I try to not freak people out. The elevator I ride the most I just take to the fourth floor, so I'm not on it long, but I usually chit chat a little bit. I do that in the grocery store checkout line too. I enjoy these little pleasantries as a way to pass the time.

I've read about sociologists doing experiments like the one you had to do. People really are strange, aren't they? I'm one of those who just gets on and rides. I don't make eye contact with people and I don't engage in small talk. I think that I am actually a bit uncomfortable and claustrophobic on elevators, actually. It's not a conscious fear, but I think that there is always that small thought in the back of my mind that the elevator could get stuck. I'm always glad to get off.

Your experiment sounds fun! People get on and then have a temporary shock of seeing your back. ^^ Well I am the quiet type who just stares at the walls. I'm a quiet person.

I always try to talk to the other people on the elevator, not only does it make a better "experience" other then waiting with discomfort, it is only a great way to make friends with other people, or maybe just hit on girls (they can't run.. )

I was going through antenatal classes with my first child. One of the classes was all the pregnant women and husbands had to go into an elevator to go have a look at one of the labour rooms. There was probably about 10 pregnant women and 10 husband/ partners all crammed into one elevator. My husband lets out a fart, which smelt putrid. Then to top it off, he points to someone else and he got the blame for it. I was gagging from the smell and was glad to get out of the elevator. I had big words with my husband after that in between the laughing.

Well there have been times that i have punched in all the numbers that lead the access to the floors.. So basically when i step out of the elevator that things keep going on to all the floors and basically annoy the people. I've done this when i was a lil kid but not anymore.

I use the elevator every day at least twice, but I do not do anything but waiting and looking at the stairlamps. Or I talk.

when i'm in an elevator, i just stare ahead of me, trying not to look anyone in the eye. i say hi if someone i know gets in and a little chit chat will begin. but there was this funny elevator incident i will never forget. our family was on the way to visit a relative in the hospital. there were other people with us in the elevator. we heard a loud fart and my 10-year-old cousin suddenly remarked, "oops, that's my dad." it would have been okay if it was left at that. the other people in the elevator doesn't know who her dad was, anyway. but my little cousin just won't stop. she faced her dad, shook his hand and said to him, "it was you, right?" all of us were trying hard not to laugh.

If I am with friends in a elevator, I talk to them. If I meet someone I know in there I try to stike a conversation with him. If I am alone in the elevator, I try to look at my refection on the Glazy steel walls(almost like mirror) and adjust my hairs. Once a funny thing happened with me. One night my newborn started crying too much at around three in the morning. We found out that she was having stomach pain. But unfortunately we didnt have the medicine in our stock. So I headed for the 24hr phamacy beside our building. When I was waiting for the elevator(belive me I didnt expect anyone in it at that part of the night), suddenly the sliding door of the elevator opened and there stood in front of me a Phillipino couple engaged in lip kissing. They were stunned seeing me and I also felt as if i am seeing ghost in front of me. I immediately backed off from there and took some time to return back to normal. Later I used the stairs to go down.
