dogs and cats are only as smart as you make them , the owners can ignore them and they have no personality, or you can teach them and they get smart by the attetention you give them ,they learn words and or sounds and all of your feelings , they will do anything possibale to please you ...you just need to spend a lot of time with them and give then manners and develope their a personalitys...cats can be taught almost as many things as dogs ..and hey so can goats ...

When I go across the road to serve petrol Lucy (the dog) always leads the way, carrying a toy to play with. Now Banjo (the kitten) is tagging along and when we leave he stays back for a while then comes a-runnin' at full pelt. I dashed out the other day after playing with them in the back yard forgetting that Pickles (the goat) was off his tether - guess who came gambolling across the road to join us? It's a circus at our place and I wouldn't swap it for anything.

personally i think cats are smarter. my cats are really smart. they know how to open doors. my one cat has jumped from the floor to the top of the closet. i couldn't believe it. they know when i'm going to leave and when they're going somewhere. they like to hide when they see me putting things in the car of theirs because they know they don't want to go in the car. lol. they know when i'm making food to eat. i can be very quiet and they still know what i'm doing. they're crazy but i love them both. as far as dogs i don't really know because i've not owned a dog. when i was growing up we had a few dogs but i dont remember them being like that at all.

I think I have to plead the 5th on this one (for you non-US folks that's basically the right to say nothing). I will however say I determine the intellegance of dogs and cats the same as I do people - each one individually, I've known dogs and cats I think are smarter than some people I've known.

Cats and dogs are both good pets. Dogs are really loyal to their master and they can be our very good friend. On the other hand cats are a good pet too but they are not as loyal as dogs and they tend to do things just for their own benefit. So I think that cats are really smarter than dogs.
