What is your most memorable experiance at the zoo? What zoo was it? I know that their are some wonderful zoos around the world and would love to hear about them see pics if you have them. Our most memorable trip to the zoo was in early 2004 we went to the San Francisco Zoo in California. It was a great day, beautiful winter day, that actually turned out to be quite warm. I've uploaded a picture of a polar bear that we saw there. I look forward to hearing your zoo stories.

I alwyas loved visiting the zoo. I haven't been there in over a year. I really should take my daughter again. She was a little too young to enjoy it last time. My most memorable trip was when the llama spit in my husbands face. That was a Kodak moment. We kept telling him about the warning signs posted but he didn't listen. I thought I was going to pee my pants, I was laughing so hard.

We have a little zoo right by our house and we visit it about 4 times a year. I like the large zoos better, though. That would have been a sight worth seeing. :)

I have been to a few larger zoos too! In the 5th grade our class to a trip the Pittsburg Zoo. I have been to the Bronx Zoo way back in the 70's LOL and Miami Zoo a few years ago. Since I am here in Orlando I have visited Disney's Animal Kingdom and Sea World.

I bet the last ones were amazing as Disney just seems to spare no expense for making things magical! :)

Hi there, I have a story that I love and still laugh at all the time. I am older now but when I was 16 years old, I played hooky from school with friends. We went to the Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn, NY. A male friend of mine kept bothering the apes. We told him to leave the poor thing alone. He stood in front of the cage and copied the animal's movements. The ape kept pacing back and forth, very perturbed. He finally picked up a ball of his doo doo and flung it at my friend. It hit him square in the chest and I could not stand up for about 10 minutes. I started laughing so hard that I was crying, and I was bent over. It was the funniest thing I ever saw and I told my friend that he should have left the poor animal alone. When we went to get on the train to return to Queens, NY, none of us would sit with our friend, he smelled like ape doo doo...LOL!!! True Story!!!!

This summer I went to the zoo for the first time in my life. We went to South Carolina to visit our daughter and her family. Our 3 1/2 year old grandaughter had heard about the zoo at church. She wanted to go so bad. We all loaded up in two separate vehicles and drove a little over an hour to get there. It was amazing. I loved it as much as my granddaughter did. I loved seeing all the animals that I had only read about. It took all afternoon to walk and see everything they had. It was amazing to see the zoo for the first time with our grandchildren. LOL

I'm glad that you finally got to visit a zoo and had as much fun as your granddaughter. My youngest just loves the zoo, and we go frequently. :)

I've only been to one zoo, the John Ball Park Zoo in Grand Rapids, MI. It has a lot of really nice exhibits. My favorites were always the mountain lions and the prairie dogs. I never got to see the penguins- all five times I went, the penguin exhibit was closed for cleaning. What kind of luck is that?

Most zoo try to install collections in 'natural' settings, with mountains and lakes, trees for the species as they could be in nature. We can observe tigers swimming in their pool and lion cubs playing in the grass with their keeper, thus getting and idea of the way animals behave when they are free.In some very large parks the animals are truly free and it is the visitors have to remain 'caged' in their cars to visit them.

That is very true, the wild animal parks require you to stay in your vehicle for your safety. I would like to visit one of those, as of yet I have never been. Zoos do try to make the animals natural habitat a part of the exhibit and I think they do a great job of that. :)

Unfortunetly you can't upload pics in to discussions started by others until you reach 500 responses. YOu can however upload them into a discussion that you start and you can upload into the interests section so long as the pics pertain to the topic and the interest. Hope that helps. I don't know if I've ever seen a see horse so I would have no idea what colors they come in. The next time I go to the Moteray Bay Aqaurium I will be sure to look for those. :) Small children seem to love the petting zoos.

I love the Zoo! I went just last month, to the one in my area. I have many more zoos that I would recommend you go to, but there is one that I am planning on going to, with my husband, because we have heard so much about, it is the San Diego Zoo. I believe that that will be the most spectacular one. I have been to about 5 in California, and one in Arizona. There is nothing more fun, to take family members to, than a place where you can all appreciate nature together, and everyone of all ages can enjoy it.

Yes I love taking my children to the zoo. My favorite is reptiles. Also my son when he was two, was looking at a Kamodo dragon through the glass when the thing turned around and walked upto the glass. My son was so excited he tried to touch it through the glass. I took a picture of it, because the dragon put its nose upto my son's finger. It was so cute. We try to go every year.

We have a little zoo by our house and we go to that one about 4 times a year. We also have a larger zoo close by that we go to about once a year. To me it's always different when we go so it really never gets boring. I'm glad that you were able to capture that memory on film. :)

I haven't been on a lot of zoos actually but I think I would enjoy a trip to the zoo, maybe in Australia would be great! The only vivid memoir that I have that includes a zoo was when I was in nursery and we had a field trip to a zoo in the Philippines, and my classmate threw up on me while we were in the bus.... icky! you bet it ruied the whole zoo trip for me!

We used to visit the zoo or wild animal park a lot as kids. We'd travel the 2hrs to San Diego (now its like 1hr *L*) and go to them. I loved to look at the animals. I think I might have even wanted to be a zoo keeper. I fell in LOVE with the white koala bear. I dont know if they have any alive anymore. But they were rare and white! White pink eyes and nose SO CUTE! The looked so adorable I bought this stuffed animal I still own and love. My sister once (not here but in Australia) held a Koala bear. She said it was like a little kid clinging to her. I loved to look at the animals and watch them. It was so much fun. I want to visit them again someday soon and see the animals as a grownup. And when I have kids they will defently see the zoo as often as possible! :))

I would love to go to the San Diego Zoo, I have heard that it's great. Is their a wildlife preserve down there in San Diego that's separate from the zoo? Or is it one and the same? The San Francisco zoo for us is about 2 hours away also, but well worth the trip.

Zoos? I looooooove zoos!!! I mean, you don't have to chase or wait for animals in a jungle just to see them up close or take their pictures like for instance what our beloved Steve Irwin used to do, right? Or watch Animal Planet just to see different kinds of animals. The last time I went to the zoo was last year (I think). I saw very, very cute tigers up close!!! They weren't that friendly though, but they made me really, really happy! I wish I could hug them!! Arww.. *Síghs*

I think that it's especially nice for children to get to see animals up close that they normally wouldn't see and read about where they're from and all of the statistics. I don't think I would like to hug a tiger though, lol!

Well truly speaking i have only went once to zoo when i was the kid. I really love that experience in my life. Tigers, snakes, elephant, zebra and many even lions but i loved the tiger more than anyone else especially the cubs of them they are so cute. I would really like them to keep in house, well that was a joke.

Good morning Beaniefanatic13, I love zoo's. It's generally the first stop I plan when I visit a new city. And, in some cases, like the San Diego Zoo, I'll return whenever the opportunity arises. As for the most memorable zoo trip ... here's a very funny little story: I was at the Dallas zoo, having lunch with some new business acquaintances, one of whom was 'Mr. Negativity'. Every other word out of his mouth was how this bad thing happened or that person did this bad thing to him. Imagaine the setting, we were eating lunch at an outside picnic table in a lovely clearing near a cluster of trees, when (I kid you not) a bird flew overhead, relieving itself right on the guys forehead. None of us said a word. I handed him a paper napkin, and attempted to manage the hilarity and irony by ignoring the incident and returning to conversation. After he cleaned the mess from his forehead, he proceeded to declare that the bird proved his theory that life sucked! Then, much to our amazement another bird added it's two cents! (Again, not kidding!) The other three of us busted out laughing. When the aching bellies subsided I asked the man ... "Did it ever occur to you that maybe your negativity draws such examples?" Although he had no response, and I've never seen him since, I've often hoped he took my words to heart and changed his outlook on life. I love this story because it really exemplifies the wisdom of our feathered and furry friends. There are teachers all around us, if we'll only listen.

Hi Beaniefanatic13, I hope you do eventually get to visit the San Diego Zoo. It's really fabulous! I've been to Zoo's around the country and I rank San Diego at the top. Some of the smaller Zoo's are pretty nice as well. The Albuquerque Zoo, though small is really quite nice. It's recently been linked to a Botanic Garden environment. The Abq. ornithology section puts on a very entertaining bird show with different types of birds, from the Toucans to the African Greys, etc... The kids love it, and so do I -- Hmmm, does that mean that there's still a kid in me? I sure hope so. I'd hate to lose my enthusiasm for our furry/feathered friends.

I think that we all have a kid inside of us, just some of us are able to express it more than others. I think that's what makes some of us stay looking and feeling younger than we actually are! :)

LOL, I want to thank you so much Ladyluna for a wonderful laugh this morning. I too have to agree that I truly believe that life is what you make of it. If you are constantly complaining about everything and you feel miserable that it is because all you do is complain. If you go around saying how great life is then you will be having a wonderful life. :) Just how I think! I couldn't tell my most memorable zoo experience, it did happen at the San Francisco Zoo but felt the censors would delete my dicussion. :) I would love to go to the San Diego Zoo, we neve made it when we were down there in the area.:(

I love zooz too. The Adelaide zoo is excellent. Every year we go there at least once. All my children love it. The surroundings are excellent. When I was teaching, I used to always arrange a class excursion to the zoo. The Adelaide zoo has many Autralian animals, such as koalas, kangaroos, echidnas, platypus, etc. However they have also made efforts to bring on overseas animals. My favourites are the meerkats. There is a Childrens section at the Adelaide zoo, where kids can pet and feed the animals. Our state also has a wide plains zoo, called Monaro, where the animals can range freely, such as lions. I have only been there once.

I love going to the zoo but unfortunately it is quite far away from me so it's very seldom I get to go. If I'd ever just go get my license it would probably be a lot easier, lol. The last time I took my children, my youngest was only around three and we had so much fun. The zoo had a bunch of raccoons and they kept untying my daughter's shoes, lol. It was too funny to watch and my daughter just kept getting me to retie her shoes so she could stick them back out for the raccoons to untie yet another time, lol.

I'm fortunate that we have 2 zoos close by. The San Francisco zoo is a couple of hours away from here so we have only been once but are talking about another trip down this spring. :) I didn't get my license until I was 31 yrs old, so I know what your talking about there. :)

Well i do like going to the zoo its always a nice experience to see the wild animals at a single place. But what i dislike about zoos are they the animals are restricted and caged and aren't in their natural habitat. But at times its best to keep them there to increase their survival rate if they are an near extint species. Overall sure i like the zoo.
